TOMATOES
TIP: LYCOPENE in tomatoes becomes more absorbable when we heat them! Cook your tomatoes with all kinds of meals, from pasta to meats to fish.
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which has been shown to support heart health and healthy cholesterol levels as you age.
Lycopene also acts as a natural sun block to keep skin youthful and protected from harmful UV rays.
So spaghetti sauce would be good. I would think.
Lisa,
Yes, great quality spaghetti sauce would be excellent!
My family loves tomatoes, we planted 60 plants last week. We have tomatoes 2 or 3 times a week. Something, to know is the seeds in the tomatoes can get trapped in the pumps in your stomach and give you a stomach ache. Happens to my husband all the time.
Barbara,
How do you manage all these tomato plants?
It is like a fazenda, a full-blown farm for tomatoes alone!!!
I remember that we had a huge number of tomato plants when I was growing up in the country with my grandparents. They produced all summer-long. And we had different types of tomatoes!
Different colors, shapes and timing to arrive during the summer.
It was an awesome experience to be versed in tomatoes!
There are 4 of use that work a garden. Then when they are ripe I can then , I processed 180 jars one year. Some of it , I made into spaghetti sauce.
Barbara,
IT is a crazy busy summer season!
A ton of work, whew.
Barbara we do the same to nothing like growing our own food and knowing what is in it and much better for us
love tomatoes as well!! my son eats cherry tomatoes like grapes!!
That’s excellent, he loves this fruit! Yes, it is a FRUIT, not a vegetablek!
i love my tomatoes i eat them and can them i just love fresh from the garden
RASPBERRIES And BLUEBERRIES
Anti-oxidants in these two berries help offset inflammation and oxidative stress that contribute to skin aging and wrinkles. Just one serving of either or these berries contains more anti-oxidants than 10 servings of most other fruits and vegetables!
Check out this recipe of a
Blueberry Pie with Fresh blueberries HERE
. (I made it!)
Check this recipe with
FRESH Raspberries HERE
(I made it, too)
Your pie looks wonderful! Yum!
I love blackberries , blueberrys and raspberries. i have a raspberry bush but some years get raspberries as big as your thumb and other years hardly any at all.
my two favorite fruits!!! yummy!!!!!! I knew about blueberries being great antioxidants!!!
Wendi,
Have you ever tried a simple, yet powerful facial mask out of blueberries or raspberries?
Here’s HOW-TO:
Crush the fresh berries and smother them all over your face and neck!
Wash off with cool water in 10 minutes!
The amount of nutrition they will deliver to the skin is amazing!
i am not a blueberry or raspberry fan i cant stand them seeds i just dont care for them either i have tried
EGGS
Eggs are an excellent source of biotin and iron that contribute to beautiful and healthy skin and hair.
Eggs are considered to be an excellent protein source alongside with 10-20% of folate and 20-30% of vitamins A, E and B12 among egg consumers!
Check out our full-fledged discussion the other day about
All things EGGS HERE!
TIP: Use ORGANIC EGGS! They are much superior in their nutrient profile than any other egg offered in stores.
I try to have one egg a day.
Lisa,
I was looking up the other day how I could use eggs in a more variety of recipes. Got a few sandwiches that I liked, and will attempt them here!
Yum. Looking forward to it!
We eat eggs atleast 2 or 3 times a week. I usually buy 4 dozen at a time. Because of where I live I get fresh eggs all the time.
Barbara,
I wish I could get fresh eggs here! Not really fresh, just from the store. Our farmer’s market carries it very rarely.
But we do love eggs, and I am figuring out all kinds of new dishes with eggs!
Check out this EGG SOUFFLE RECIPE!
oh how we love farm fresh eggs they are so much Bette and they taste and look different from the ones you buy at the store
I do remember that our farm eggs we collected every day were so yummy. We took it as our way of living.
Also, a ton of people were my grandparents’ regular customers who would come every week or so to pick up their fresh dozen of eggs.
My grandma sold them for a song, but it wasn’t about the money. It was providing a great value to the neighborhood.
BEANS
Beans are the essence of a good diet that contributes FIBER, PROTEIN, VITAMINS to our body.
Fiber is great for cleansing our body of debris and by-products, promoting regularity, that is in its own is a cleansing process.
Without FIBER, the life of our PROBIOTIC bacteria that contribute to our IMMUNE HEALTH is IMPOSSIBLE!
The quality of PROTEIN in BEANS thickens and strengthens our hair cells and does other no less than miraculous things to our health.
Just these two factors – FIBER & PROTEIN from BEANS – can truly improve the looks and the how we feel inside our bodies.
Beans are a big hit with my family, They love cranberry, pinto , kidney and lima beans.
Barb,
We eat a lot of beans. Sometimes, I go and buy a 15 different types of beans just to try them all out.
What do you do with LIMA beans?
I do them rarely and with a light sauce.
I just cook on the stove add a little bit of ham and make a pan of cornbread to go with it. I cook beans atleast once a week.
I make many recipes that include beans and my family loves them too. Which is great.
bean soup is a hit in our family my hubby likes the pinto beans but all beans are good
OLIVE OIL
TIP: Use ORGANIC Extra Virgin Olive Oil for the maximum anti-aging effect.
Olive oil contains monounsaturated fats that are huge contributors to a healthy heart and arteries.
Containing polyphenols, which are potent anti-oxidants, olive oil may help prevent age-related diseases.
To tell the truth, I am not a fan of olives. They kids love olives and I do cook with it.
oh you are so right i have been using olive oil now for about 10 years and i tell you the food taste so much better and it is good for us
RED WINE
A glass of wine daily may indeed have a positive effect on your health due to its resveratrol content, a unique anti-oxidant that can help fight against diabetes, heart disease, and age-related memory loss.
My great aunt told me , her kidney doctor recommend a glass of wine a day to help with kidney function. Never been a wine drinker.
Barbara,
Wine drinking is an acquired taste.
A half glass of red wine with food can contribute to our health.
Overdoing can be problematic!
i am not a wine drinker maybe just have not found a good one i like my daughter is and i try it i dont like it
BRAZIL NUTS
Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a mineral which aids in the production of the anti-oxidant glutathione to help slow down the skin aging process.
Just 2 nuts a day will provide you with enough selenium to reap its anti-aging benefits.
CHECK OUT A POST ABOUT DIFFERENT NUTS HERE!
I love these nuts and pecans. I wish the walnut and hickory nut trees around here would produce good nuts but as the years have gone by they are getting harder and harder to find.
Barbara,
I east nuts every day. We have a lineup of container with different nuts on our kitchen counter.
When we’re hungry – reach out for a quick snack!
Just wish they where not so expensive and we could get nuts off the tree that grow here. We have trees but no nuts. My mom may have got a half a bushel of nuts off of a walnut tree last year.
Barbara,
It is worth investing into this food!
We do it regularly and enjoy our free-standing snacks every day!
Laura i to have nuts on the counter top we eat cashew almonds pistachios they are always out for a quick snake and jack will even eat some pistachios we has so out and he tried them and he loves them that is good because he dont just eat certain things
Karen,
It is so amazing that this little thing like having the foods on the countertops HELP Jack!
I am happy to hear he is eating the foods otherwise he would never touch.
