anxiety essential oils

The studies on the benefits of the essential oils are many. Some of them directly study certain oils, others investigate whether essential oils have a direct connection of improving the functioning of certain organs and the list can go on.

What’s known is that essential oils have been used for centuries throughout the history of the mankind. Different cultures adapted the use of the oils in certain ways, gave preference to certain oils, and revered the oils in their religious and daily practices.

In our society, many have tried essential oils in many of their forms and shapes and via different products: candles, air moisturizers, herbal teas and tea infusions, jewelry lockets, insect repellents and pure oils in their glass containers.

Let’s take a look at a dozen of essential oils that have been known for centuries and used by herbalists for anxiety and calming us down during the times of huge stress.

There’s an interesting concept that exists among many essential oils. Some essential oils being known for their energizing effect, in some people produce a calming effect. And vice versa, calming effect from some oils can be a great energy lift in some people. This phenomenon in herbs is known as being adaptogenic to the needs within a body.

There are many ways to use essential oils. Here’s just a handful ideas how you could maximize the use of those aromatic powerhouses in your daily life.

Like with anything that comes close into contact with our bodies, it is strongly recommended to consult your physician or health care professional before you use any alternative products and methods for any condition you may be experiencing.

  1. Inhale directly: Rub 1-2 drops in cupped palms and take a long, deep breath
  2. Rub directly: Rub 1-2 drops of oil into your temples, wrists or anywhere, for full body relaxation
  3. Use on-the-go: Put a few drops on a handkerchief, cotton pad or on a scarf and inhale as needed. You’ll get instant calming support throughout your day. There are a lot of products like pendants and bracelets having an aroma pad enclosed into the lockets with your choice of essential oil.
  4. Add to your shower: Immerse yourself in an essential oil steam by adding a couple of drops in your shower. Remember to plug or cover the drain and inhale deeply.
  5. Use a diffuser: To get long-lasting benefit, use a diffuser. It is great for everyone at home – adults, kids and pets!

Let’s give a shoutout to the essential oils that have been used for anxiety for centuries in many cultures.

    LAVENDER

Lavender Essential Oil is one of the widely-spread and used oils out there! It is well-documented and incorporated into hundreds of products and supplements.

Here are some ways for you to widen the use of this oil and take advantage of the ways it has affect on your well-being during the day.

    1. Inhale lavender oil directly for an immediate calming effect

Simply rub 2-3 drops of lavender oil in your palms and take a deep breath. The scent enters the amygdala, the center for emotions, and provides a feeling of instant relaxation. Great for use in the office, while traveling or in crowded areas!

If you’d rather not apply the oil directly, put 1-2 drops in a handkerchief or a cotton pad and inhale.

    2. Relieve stress headaches

Rub 1-2 drops of lavender oil into your temples to ease a tension headache. In fact for full body relaxation you can rub 1-2 drops on the wrists or the feet as well.

    3. Lavender tea for stress relief

Making a fragrant lavender herbal tea at the end of a long day, can be a great way to unwind. Sip and whiff at the same time!

    4. Lavender stress relief essential oil blend – Use as a body massage oil/moisturizer

    6 drops Clary Sage Oil
    2 drops Lemon Oil
    3 drops Lavender Oil
6 tsp of a carrier oil – such as fractionated coconut oil (which is a liquid at room temperature and does not stain), jojoba or moringa oil. Moringa oil is great for dry skin so this recipe also makes an excellent moisturizer!

    EUCALYPTUS ESSENTIAL OIL

I use this oil on the daily basis. And during the flu season, it is one of the best to be used in the infuser to spread out all the nice aroma alongside with the antibacterial effect of this oil for the air we breath in.

When growing up, I was sent to the spa camp for 45 days where they used Eucalyptus Essential Oil therapies for our lungs and tracheas. That was for the profilactics of flus and colds and to strengthen our immune system to fight those colds during the flu season. I loved the inhalation therapies there. They were fantastic!
