What are those beautiful signs of Spring?

For all of us it is one way or another, but we do want to get rid of old winter stuff, organize our closets, rooms, donate items that have been non the shelf boxed up for quite a long time.

Other things about this season are our reaching out to others by ways of real human. Like stopping by to bring us a small cute dessert wrapped up in a hand-made container or spend a few minutes or hours preparing those amazing Holiday recipes.

This time was MY precious time with my mom and sister pulling out old recipe book and going through the decision-making process of what’s coming on the table This Year! We ended up making the “staples” for our Easter time. But at least a couple of items were trying-our-hand at something new.

Colorful Easter traditions are treasured by each family in their own way. Let’s continue on the path of Spring and Celebration of New Life.

Good morning!! We host Easter at our house with a huge egg hunt (250-300 filled eggs) for my siblings, their kids and my parents. This year there are 13 kids total-next yr there will be 15 (2 more joining the family within the next 6 weeks).Usually we have a huge Turkey dinner but since I’m still on bedrest we’ve talked about just doing “snack foods” (fruit/veges,devilled eggs,Easter bread, ect…) this year. Hubby thinks I can whip up an amazing meatloaf from bed but I told him we will have to see (I’m not feelin it 😉 Lol )

      • Wow Jessica, can you adopt my son for your hunt!

      • Rebecca Swenor says

Don”t worry their will always be more to join in through the years.

        • Jessica Parent says

My older sister and I are responsible for 12 of those 15 just between us with almost 6 kids each…she is due with her next son a week after me .We still have 2 brothers that don’t have kids yet (1 still is a “kid” at almost 18) & a little sister with 3 boys 🙂 So technically there are 17 at our hunt if I add my little brother and BFF’s son that joins us every year

    • Good Morning, We are going to try decorating Easter eggs today with something I saw on Pintrest. I and going to put shaving cream in a bowl and add food coloring and then swirl eggs around in it. To get a tye-dye affect.

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Good morning everyone!!! I hope you are having a wonderful day 🙂 we always celebrate Easter with a ham, egg hunt and do the traditional Easter bunny baskets 🙂

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

Good morning! It was 80 degrees on Monday, then Tuesday we had freezing rain and now today it’s fairly chilly and doesn’t feel much like Spring but there are a few things I do every Spring and Easter. On Easter, we go to my Grandmom’s for brunch and an egg hunt.. Then we have a ham dinner at our house with a few guests. Every Spring, we do our gardens, one out front, one out back and one by the pool. I like to add a new perennial or 2 to each garden every year and plant annuals with them.

    • Good Morning Everyone…

    • Rebecca Swenor says

Good morning all. I always loved Easter because of the egg coloring. I have always love to paint and my kids do too. We all get together day before Easter and color eggs with all the lil ones in our whole family. It is an awesome time for adults and children. I can’t wait til Saturday. 🙂

    • So late. My mom stopped by unexpected. Will read though. Happy Day to Everyone!

Easter & Rabbits Do Not Mix.

At least in a way that some people perceive it OK.
Such a good tradition to adopt an animal for Easter. Literally. What happens to those rabbits After Easter is gone and forgotten till next year? Yep, many are orphaned and neglected.

I love Rabbit.org organization that promotes humane and educational programs for all of us. Check them out and see how you could support your family traditions and still have fun!

    This information is courtesy Rabbit.org

A person who chooses a baby rabbit as a companion must:

**Have lots of time, a household that can withstand some chewing, and a stable residence.

**Expect an unneutered/unspayed baby will spray urine. Know that neutering/spaying (at four to six months) will stop the problem.

**Expect accidents when baby forgets the location of the litterbox.

**Allow the energetic young rabbit at least 30 hours a week of free time outside her pen, habitat, or cage.

**Know the cute baby will soon be an adult rabbit and may have a different personality.

If you think you would enjoy sharing your home with a rabbit, please contact HRS, your local animal shelter, humane society or rabbit rescue group for information about adopting a rabbit. No matter where you live, you are probably within 10 miles of a rabbit who desperately needs a safe, indoor home.

    • Karen Hinkle says

I guess as a county gal who has 25 acers of land I never had this problem we have always had farm animals I never thought about ppl who arnt use to little chicks or bunnie or duck they do grow fast and when they do they are not as cute a when little so yes you have to accept it will grow and get big great orgination they have

    • thia Beniash says

I love bunnies and have had them as pets. They are a lot ofwork just like any animal. This addition should be carefully considered. Bunnies and chicks are not disposable like Easter candy!

    • Jessica Parent says

The only rabbit I’ve ever had looks like the one pictured above (my almost 18 yr old “baby” brother) We would never get a pet just to celebrate the holiday but last Easter found half of a baby bunny in our yard during our egg hunt (the younger kids started flipping “The cat ate the Easter bunny!!

      • Rebecca Swenor says

That is awful for kids and bunny.

      • Jessica Parent says

Just so you all know do not be afraid to click the red link above-I would never post a deceased half bunny-it is a picture of my little brother in his Easter bunny costume and my oldest child ( & only daughter) from Halloween a few yrs ago 😉

    • Wendi Watson says

It is that time of year that a lot of people do go out and by rabbits for their families and I really do and truly hope they think about all the responsibility that does go along the Ooooh Awww feeling at first! They are a living creature and need to be loved and treated like family!

    • Very interesting facts about these furry little guys, Thanks

    • Mandi Gilliam says

I love bunnies!! My mom got us bunnies and ducks as kids. And even though it was hard work she taught us how to be responsible, and take care of them properly. 🙂

    • I have a neighbor that has pet rabbits. Everyonce in a while one will get lose and come visit me. I believe the one that visit must weight 25 lbs. The biggest rabbit I have ever seen. I don’t mine it visiting, he’s so cute.

    • This drives me nuts..the ppl behind us I believe they get pet rabbits and just let them run. There us a small tree line and overgrown ditch between our property. I think that is where the rabbits are living I have seen at least 3 and I caught 1 (only bc he was sick and had an ear infection) he was covered in ticks. I sent him to a rescue I found just for bunnys. Come to find out he also has a parasite of some kind

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

We tried having a rabbit once and weren’t fans of it. Luckily, my cousin lives on a farm and took the rabbit in.. She now has 6 rabbits and they have a pretty happy life, I suppose.

    • This is so true…We had a rabbit a couple of years ago.. and yes they are hard work.. and a lot of maintence.. we loved KOKO but our apartment complex told us we had to get rid of it.. because its considered an exotic animal and they don’t allow those in our apartment complex.. We miss him so much.. my 7 year old still ask about him.. and misses him.. We gave him to my dad who turned him over to a rabbit farm..

    • Rebecca Swenor says

My sister has been a foster mother for a few rabbits. Her pet rabbit ( Bun) she had her for years and she died two years ago. Bun thought she was a cat though and had her lil “I am cute.” attitude. Anyway, since than she has fostered I believe 4 rabbits until they found forever homes. If I didn’t have my dogs I would rather have a rabbit because to me they are a lot like cats and love to cuddle.

    • Jessica Parent says

Its hiding my comment(waiting for moderation) from half hour ago cuz I tried to include a pic of my “baby” bro in his bunny costume so Im rewriting it without the picture…lol The only rabbit I’ve ever had looks like the one pictured above (my almost 18 yr old “baby” brother) We would never get a pet just to celebrate the holiday but last Easter found half of a baby bunny in our yard during our egg hunt (the younger kids started flipping “The cat ate the Easter bunny!!”

      • Rebecca Swenor says

This same thing you where wait to post is in #2 above. Kids had to be traumatized.

        • Rebecca Swenor says

okay I am thinking today it was posted twice cause this is # 2 so they posted it anyway Jessica. LOl

        • Jessica Parent says

They were for the moment (Dad got it out of there fast-it was as hidden as the eggs they were searching for) The link to the pic is not the dead bunny and was awaiting moderation so couldn’t be seen So I had posted again without the link to the picture….It is a picture of “our Bunny” (very much alive-my little brother and only daughter)

    • We had a rabbit when I was younger. It was a fun animal to have.

Fun Easter Facts – Easter Parades
Look what I found at Times:

“There is said to be an old superstition which held that wearing new clothes at Easter time meant good luck for the remainder of the year (does this mean that the three months or so prior to Easter were just awful?).

Starting in the mid-1800’s, upper-class New Yorkers exiting the grand churches along Fifth Avenue would parade and promenade their finery. From such elitist beginnings – as well as the 1948 Judy Garland film Easter Parade, – comes the present-day Fifth Avenue Easter Parade, which is decidedly wackier and looser.”
    easter parade

    • Wendi Watson says

then that must be why we all get new outfits for Easter every year! I did not know about this superstition, but i always had a new dress and bonnet every year (I was the only girl)

    • Karen Hinkle says

I remember in school we had easter parade we would dress up in our Eater dresses and bonnets and parade around school

    • As a child I always had a new outfit, purse & shoes for Easter Sunday, those were great times!!

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Is that the reason we all get new Easter outfits?? Very interesting. I’ve never heard of that before.

    • I wondered why , when I was little we always got a new Easter Dress for Easter Sunday. I actually still have one of mine in the attic. Its a pioneer dress with a hat. My daughter wear it for pioneed Days in school.

    • Jessica Parent says

Its one of 2 days a year where we “dress up” a bit 🙂 I always was forced to dress up (was a Tomboy and hated the Easter dresses and hats) I never knew there was a “reason” behind it 😀

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

We always had this rule in our house but never understood why. We have continued it with our kids and my sister does the same with her kids.

    • Never knew the story behind it but my mom always got me and my sister a new outfit and shoes for easter

    • This must be why my parents always got us Easter Clothes.. I have never gotten Easter outfits for my kids but I guess I am going to have to now.. I love this superstition.. a reason to shop lol

    • thia Beniash says

We don’t get new Easter outfits every year, it depends what we are doing.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I offend wondered why everyone would buy a new Easter dress. Now I know that is awesome info. The first 3 months counts for the last Easter. lol 🙂

    • Never had a Easter parade around here. Unless, you consider midnight mass when the priest walks around the church three times lol

    Faberge Eggs Mistique And Glamor

Tradition of the Faberge Egg started in Russia by Tsar Alexander III who wanted to present a unique Easter gift to his wife Alexandra Fyodorovna.

Carl Faberge was commissioned to make that Uniqueness. What came out of this project was Mesmerizing and Tradition-prone.

Look at this 1st Faberge Egg with an yolk inside made out of Gold. And a little hen is gold, too, has 2 ruby eyes. All details are so tiny, it is still an amazing achievement of that time how amazing Faberge craftsmen were able to achieve the precision at such minute size!

    faberge easter egg alexander III

Since that long-gone 1886 year, every year the Royal family commissioned the Faberge clan for one-of-a-kind eggs. Each with a Secret inside!

Look here at all Faberge styles inspired by the Russian Faberge Eggs.

    • Wendi Watson says

they are beautiful in every way i love faberge eggs! The are very decodant and just gorgeous! i love the secret inside!

    • Karen Hinkle says

they are all beautiful but I really like the Alexander Palace Faberge Style Enameled Egg in Rich Ebony

    • These eggs are stunning! thanks for the history lesson on them too

    • Mandi Gilliam says

How pretty are these eggs??? And how cool!!! To think they made that in the 1800’s?? Wow! I have never had one, maybe I should get one! I do know that they are pricey though 🙁

      • CoffeeTime says

        Mandi,
The Real Faberge are sought after! The most expensive one was sold at Christy’s for over 800 Million!
But the Faberge Style eggs can be very affordable, yet festive for Ester and general decor. For $30-70 you can buy a find!

    • thia Beniash says

I love faberge eggs. They are so beautiful.

    • I wish my husband would give me and egg like this for Easter. I just don’t think that’s gonnna happen. lol. Also another Tradition I did not know about.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

Faberge Eggs have always been so gorgeous!

    • I have heard of Fabrege Eggs.. They are so beautiful.. I wish I could own one..

      • CoffeeTime says

        Carmen,
For now, we can only be lucky to view a collection here and there!
I was fortunate enough to see several collections of the real Faberge eggs.
Now, Russian collectors are trying to gather them into their own hands, but there’s a huge number of Royal Faberges that are floating around the world.

After the October Socialist Revolution in 1917, the majority of Royal riches were sold out and stolen as well. The members of the Royal family, many of them, ended up dying in very poor conditions. Sad, sad part of history. So, they sold their gems, Faberges included, to get money for their own survival. More often than not, Faberge Eggs were sold for nothing!

        • Rebecca Swenor says

Thanks for the history on Faberge Eggs that is interesting. They are so gorgeous and beautiful. 🙂

    • They are all so beautiful. I really like the ebony egg

    • Jessica Parent says

I’ve never owned one but ALWAYS been fascinated by Farberge eggs (and wanted one) I figure I will acquire one in about 10 yrs when I don’t have to worry about my kids breaking it on me and maybe can actually afford the indulgence 😉

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I am guessing that is wear they came up with the idea for the plastic eggs. That is an awesome tradition to start in a family for adults and not just the kids. Maybe I can get my sons started now on it for their mother. 🙂

    • Love these eggs. We are Ukrainian and my grandmother and mother have tons of these eggs around.

    Let’s Go GREEN on Easter!

How do you try to be “green”? What are you actively going to do to make this Easter greener with less waste and incorporating the use of non-chemical, laced or clean products? Here’s a great way to start.

Alternative ways to dye Easter eggs…
-Brown-1 quart strong coffee plus water to cover the eggs
    -Lavender- blueberries
    -Sienna-Yellow onions
    -Deep pink-Beet juice half strength
    -Light pink-Cranberry juice straight
-Brick red-Paprika 3 tbsp or more
    -Yellow-green-Turmeric 3 tbsp or more
-Blue-gray-Purple grape juice cut in half

Look how vibrant these natural colors look!
    easter eggs with natural dye

    • Wendi Watson says

that is real a neat idea i did not know you could use those types of things for coloring eggs great info!

    • Karen Hinkle says

I would love to try this how cool they are pretty better then the dyed colors thanks I will have to give it a try I aso have chickens who lay colored eggs to just boil them no need to color

    • Love coloring eggs! so many pretty colors!

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Wow!! Isn’t that a nifty trick?!? I can honestly say that I have not done my best to be green and need more improving. I do recycle though.

    • I’m going to try Shaving cream and food coloring today to made eggs the tye-dye affect.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

it’s hard to believe those eggs were dyed using those techniques.. I think I might have to try that this Easter.

      • CoffeeTime says

Hard to believe, but worth trying!
I was raised on naturally dye only for Easter eggs.
Our favorite was Onion Skin (dry parts that we’d collect all winter long!). The hues and variations we used to get were amazing.

    • Those are great ideas.. but I heard that the egg shell is pouros so if you dye them with these items.. the egg will taste that way also.. and my kids love to eat their dyed eggs..

    • Neat Ideal. .but I will stick with the food coloring cuz I already have in my cabinet

    • thia Beniash says

That is interesting,I think I will try it.

    • Jessica Parent says

Used to be a fav. pastime of mine (dying eggs) but we haven’t done it in a few yrs because the kids wont eat the eggs if there’s any color “under the shell” . I think these above turned out great-nice to know theres ways to do it without those little chemical pellets (We use crayons, markers and stickers)

    • I will try the cranberry juice..I have some already

    • I was just doing a Twitter party last night and this was one of the topics. Someone said to use onion peels to turn the eggs colored.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have never thought about color the eggs like that but have about dying clothes. Great idea thanks. I usually get the paper shavings instead of the plastic for the baskets and get the wick baskets. I am going to suggest to every one about the dying with natural stuff for the baskets also. That is a great idea. 🙂

Easter Dinners Traditional and A Bit of Different Way!

Yes, you are going to opt into something tried and tested this season. But why not try something else, like these Stuffed Peppers recipes?

FYI –> Very easy to make and you Choose what goes Inside these “puppies!”

    – Choose rice as a base (precook, but not too much!)
    – Saute onions and vegetables of choice
    – Spice it up with HERBS!
    – Mix and stuff into Red, Green Bell Peppers!
    – 400F would do for about 20-30 minutes, but watch it!
    OR
    – Put all peppers into a deep pan and pour hand-made tomato sauce! (I was raised on this recipe!) Cook for about 30 minutes on slow fire!

Creamy Potatoes Au Gratin, Courtesy of AllRecipes

Love potatoes, though now I am a very rare potato eater. But this recipe I am going to try this Easter.
    potatoes au gratin

  11. 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and very thinly sliced
    3 cloves garlic, minced
    3/4 teaspoon salt
    1 cup heavy cream, divided
freshly ground black pepper to taste
    freshly grated nutmeg to taste
2 cups freshly shredded Gruyere cheese, divided
    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place potatoes, garlic, and salt into a large pot, fill with enough water to cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer the potatoes until tender but not mushy, 8 to 10 minutes. With a slotted spoon, transfer about half the potatoes to a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Pour half of the cream over the potatoes, season with black pepper and nutmeg, and sprinkle half of the Gruyere cheese onto the mixture. Top with the remaining potatoes; sprinkle again with black pepper and nutmeg. Pour on the remaining cream, and sprinkle with remaining Gruyere cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese topping is crisp and brown on top, about 1 hour.
  • Hello good morning!
Warm weather and the smell if flowers!
