    rubies diamonds

    RUBIES and their meaning

The fiery and captivating Ruby is a stone of nobility, considered the most magnificent of all gems, the queen of stones and the stone of kings. Ancients believed it surpassed all other precious stones in virtue, and its value exceeded even that of the Diamond. The Chinese Emperor Kublai Khan was said to have offered an entire city in exchange for a sizable Ruby. [Melody, 573][Fernie, 138, 140][Megemont, 159][Kunz, 102][Simmons, 332]

Revered in many cultures throughout history, Ruby has always been a talisman of passion, protection and prosperity. It symbolizes the sun, and its glowing hue suggests an inextinguishable flame within the stone that legends claim would shine through even the thickest clothing and could not be hidden; if Ruby were cast into water it would cause it to boil, and if carved and pressed into wax, it would melt the wax. It was worn as an amulet or charm to ward off plague and pestilence, warned its wearer of impending danger, kept the body safe, and banished sadness and foolish thoughts. It was reputed to bring its owner peace, drive away frightful dreams, restrain lust, and to help resolve disputes. Burmese legend declares inserting a Ruby into the flesh would make one completely invulnerable. [Mella, 103][Kunz, 101-103][Fernie, 141-142][Simmons, 332]

This is one of my favorite stones. I love them clear and really in bright RED.

I definitely favor this stone, never knew so much about it thank you for sharing meaning. Is my birthstone and when I was little my grandma had a ring I loved and always played with telling her how pretty it was, was also her birthstone. Two days before she passed she gave me the ring told me wanted me to have, I had it re-sized and have never to this day taken off since she gave me 🙂

    • Depends on the context. I love them in small sizes with gunmetal to mute the brightness.

    • Jessica Parent says

    • Interesting

    • Mandi Gilliam says

That’s hilarious!! Only because it’s my dad’s birthstone and he wears one on his finger everyday yet has to take laxatives, and stomach pills everyday hahahaha!! I bet he didn’t know about it’s healing properties lol!!! Sorry I’m not trying to make fun but when I saw that it just made me giggle, guess you would have to know my dad to understand why the digestive aspects of this stone are so funny!

    green diamond

The peridot was believed to be a stone of springtime by ancients who considered it a gift from Mother Nature. Napoleon once made a gift of peridot to Josephine as a symbol of undying love and admiration. In ancient times, it was said that a dream about peridot foretold impending danger.

    Healing qualities of peridot
Peridot is a stone of lightness and beauty. Only spiritual or clear-minded persons should use peridot. The person with too many earthly problems will not be able to understand the beauty of the Peridot. The very spiritual can wear peridot in a necklace with the stone at the base of the throat to feel its soothing effect. Used in a necklace, peridot is a protector against negative emotions.

Peridot has been known to have healing effect on the gall bladder and liver.

This is very pretty. I think I have been in the dark about gems because these name I do not know. I love all the information you are giving us Laura. They are very interesting. Thank you. 🙂

    • Virginia Rogers says

Never knew these stones had so much meaning, should someday look into more wish could afford could probably use more of them. 🙂

    • They are very pretty in the raw as well. I love raw gemstones in general but peridot specifically still has a pretty bright color, but maintains its earthiness..

    • Jessica Parent says

Love this green-had no idea some gems could truly have “healing powers” (thought all that was old wives tales 😉 )

      Wendy,
Once, I was obsessed with Peridots. I had a huge collection of this gem in rings, bracelets, necklaces and stones.
One of the stones that had a FANCY cut was HUGE! I gave it as a gift to one of my teachers from high school when I went for a visit about 15 years ago.
Peridots can really beautiful. I shop to stones for a long time. I do not act on first sight thing! I visit and re-visit my future acquisition!

    TOURMALINE, the HEART Stone

Pink Tourmaline may vary in color from pale pink to deep red, and in clarity from flawless transparent gems to opaque rough crystals, yet all are devoted to serving the highest aspects of the heart. A primary stone of the Heart Chakra, Pink Tourmaline links to the Crown Chakra infusing love and spirituality, encouraging compassion and gentleness during periods of growth and changes as humanity works toward enlightenment. [Simmons, 407][Raphaell, 131][Melody, 658]

A favorite among the Tourmalines is a variety known as Watermelon Tourmaline, named for its pink center surrounded by an outer green “rind.” This combination is considered a super activator of the Heart Chakra. While Pink Tourmaline is associated with the emotions, Green Tourmaline is beneficial in one’s physical being. Together they link to the higher self, and are believed to bring true joy to one’s life and relationships. [Simmons, 410-411][Melody, 660][Hall, 302-303]

Pink Tourmaline is the best crystal of emotional support for teenage pregnancy and to assist in bonding with the baby. [Eason, 53]

Tourmaline is specifically used to treat motion sickness. It may also assist in restoring luster and shine to hair and nails. [Megemont, 184]
