Good day to all. I have noticed that we have been eating more gluten free foods because my son went gluten free this year. Gluten free foods is something I am literally thinking about switching too because I love the taste of the items I have baked anyway.

Fermented foods have been known for centuries as a safe way to preserve foods and get the best health value from the newly formed food quality because of the bacteria that digests it and turns it into a fermented food.

Check our posts on many familiar to you and not-so Fermented Food Treasure that have been used in different cultures for thousands of years.

I myself grew up with KEFIR as a staple in our home. used to drink it almost daily, before going to bed. I remember my mom giving me a cup of plain kefir with a piece of white bread. I would put a spoonful of sugar, watch it melt and sing into the kefir’s white cloud and then spoon it with my tiny spoon. That was quite an adventure and formed a strong memory in me.

Life bacteria within these powerful products are called “PROBIOTICS.” They are responsible for keeping in check all the pathogens, otherwise known as bad gut flora. With probiotics our bodies hum better, become regular, and deliver more nutrients to the cell levels. All because of the tiny bugs that do their work inside our intenstines – the amazing probiotics!

This new year, watch out for these amazingly full of well-being Fermented Products:

    Kombucha
    Kimchi and Sauerkraut
    Kefir
    Kvas

    fermented foods

    • Jessica Parent says

I’d need to sample a few recipes before I hopped on these….my kids (and husband)are ridiculously picky and I hardly have money to get foods I know they like (and if these fermented foods are priced like the organic section at my grocer , I can guarantee they are out of my league)

      • Laura at AMCoffee says

        Jessica,
I make all of these products myself at home!
Check out the links for these products in #Coffee 1 and see what you can do.
Lots of recipes how to create your own kombuchas, kvas, kefir, sauerkraut!
I was raised on these products. My mom and grandparents made them all all-year-round.
Start with one. Attempt more than once, as you will tweak your own way out of the recipe!

        • Jessica Parent says

I know I love (and have always loved) Sauerkraut (My hubby and daughter that doesnt live here any more like it occasionally. Ill definitly check them out .Thanks Laura

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I can handle sauerkraut with a little bit of brown sugar sometimes but I don’t like yogurt or anything that taste like it. They do sale the probiotic pills now. 😀

      • sauerkraut! and coldslaw my favorite and I learned a lot on #amcoffee last time it makes a big difference and I can eat coldslaw every day I love it never had kefir need to give it a try

Who said that GLUTEN-FREE is only good for those who are gluten intolerant?

Eating foods that free of gluten is a very powerful way into a better health for everyone? If this idea new to you, be brave to explore options by having more such products and flours like Amaranth, Teff, Legumes and Nuts.

Look for these products on the shelves and ask your local stores where you could find these products. The more you ask, the more you will get in response. Stores do care how well their shelves are stocked for items that are being asked for!

    gluten free nuts

    • Jessica Parent says

My local grocery store is actually really good at carrying a decent size gluten free section ….I dont seek it out on purpose per se but have bought them at times when the price is right. My sister had to cut out gluten due to a possible intolerance/allergy in her breastfeeding baby and said she never felt better in her life and might never eat gluten again……which entices me to buy more gluten free foods

    • Rebecca Swenor says

This is indeed true about the more you ask the more the stores pay attention. I am working on the owner of a famous deli in our area who knows our family. There are a lot of people that as him if he has gluten free products. He does sale spaghetti now that is gluten free. Yummy!!!

    #3 Plant-Based All Foods
Strangely enough, vegetables are being eaten less frequently than they were 5 years ago (according to NPD Group).

Companies and food chains use the following techniques to reduce meat consumption and encourage veggies consumption.

Adding mushrooms, lentils into burgers does reduce meat consumption!

Many stores also are adding plant-derived personal care products like hair care products, body lotions and such. You will see ingredients like Quinoa, Chestnut in those products – all plants that are excellent to eat and to mix into the personal care and beauty product lines!

    plant based foods

    • Jessica Parent says

You can add veges to many things to get them in (I personally enjoy them….eating more now than ever before in my life) I learned to start putting them in foods years ago to get them in my kids (meats and juices seem to go over the best, well besides cakes of course )

    • Rebecca Swenor says

Now this I find interesting and you do see more good foods in products for our bodies. I love mushrooms in my burgers and I also love soy burgers. Yummy!!!

      • oh I put lots of vegetables away form the garden for winter and we sure do love them when the price goes up in the winter and we know where they came from its great to have the garden and hubby hunts and fishes to

    • I’ve definitely seen this exploding! I’ve tried some of them and they’re good and others still need a little work.

    #4 Wine in A Can

Do you remember the time when wine migrated from a simple bottle to a carton box? These wines have built the reputation of being much less expensive, yet bearing the same quality.

Guess what is growing in popularity? Yes, CANNED WINE!

The trend is so obvious that stores cannot ignore it. They add organic and ethnic wines to their list. Yes, the cans have to be recyclable, as it is one of the sought-for component that adds value to the product.

The wine connoisseurs are interested in TASTE, not so much in Quantity. Small, and even petite, wine cans will be visible in stores.

Like this one by Francis Ford Coppola winery – Sofi Mini, which is only 187 ml can – enough to taste and feel the aroma!

    • Jessica Parent says

I have not seen wine in a can yet (nor obviously tried it) but why not Ive seen some of the weirdest beers ever recently in my grocery store 🙂

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I do love wine and sometimes the cheaper wines. The boxed wines I am guilty of picking up once in a while. The cans I find interesting and I do believe they will be big sellers.

    • I don’t think that I’ve seen wine in a can yet, but it sounds like it could be convenient in certain settings. I kind of can’t wrap my head around something like this for myself though – I prefer bottles.

      • Laura at AMCoffee says

        Yona,
I was surprised to see this one as a growing trend. So much growing, that stores have reported it as one of the major trends they’re expanding on this new 2016 year.

Yes, I’d agree that for ambiance and taste – go with wine in a bottle. But hey, it’s us only!

#5 Strange New Meats and Meat Cuts
When we love food and start eating it every day, at the end, we crave something new, something to enliven our tastes for something that is different.

Whole Foods stores say that due to more conservation of many fish and animals, some other options that were never used before, emerge.

For example fish like Blue Catfish that was introduced in the Chesapeake Bay for recreational fishery could be a very healthy and environmentally safe to consume. And such examples include dozens of fish that can be delish and consumer-friendly.

For those on the meat side, stores are coming up with innovative options to source and present meat products. 2016 will show what it is. Check out meat and delicatessen side of the Whole Foods store in your area to see what’s cooking there.

  11. It’s good to see whole foods and foods that are good for me on trend in 2016. I’ve made a decision to get healthier in the new year.

  12. I’m definitely trying to be healthier and eat more nutritious foods in 2016. I’m even contemplating making a switch to gluten-free foods for several reasons. It’s nice to see what foods are on trend.

  13. Happy to hear that both fermented and plant-based foods will be on-trend this year. I need to make a plan to try some new foods and techniques to start things off right!

  14. I haven’t heard of “365” stores. I will have to see if there are any in my area. We have been really moving towards more organic foods, and sometimes it is hard to find.

  15. If I ever see a Whole Foods, I am going in and buying EVERYTHING. Sadly, we don’t have any here in Northern NJ.

  16. Believe it or not I have to be really careful before choosing a gluten free food–they are sometimes (not always) NOT good for diabetics!! Many of them are high in carbs-a big no no. As for organic——–There is a Whole Foods store not far from me but between the difficulty parking there and the prices-I tend to stay away. I do watch to make sure nothing that goes into my mouth is GMO!!

    • Laura at AMCoffee says

      Michele,
I so much agree with the fact that FOODS for one condition – like Gluten Free as an example, – can be so NO-NO for diabetics or other groups of population with other conditions: Nut and Tree Nut Allergies as an example.

Reading LABELS remains as my first go-to reference each and every time! Even for the products I know and buy regularly. Why? Some companies reformulate them, and people who are used to the same label stop checking it. One of the yogurt companies did it by substituting a couple of ingredients with new ones that were objectionable to me.

      Reading LABELS IS A MUST!

  17. Organic is definitely something that has been a priority for us. Non-GMO is becoming more important to us as well. I

  18. I was interested to read that probiotics can be found in fermented foods.

  19. We drink a ton of smoothies. I am going to try more juicing this year. I started taking probiotics a few months ago and am seeing a difference.

  20. I have to admit I’ve not tried a lot of probiotic or fermented food so much of this is new to me. Always interested in learning about new products especially if they are good for you.

  21. I think you’re right a lot of educational has happened and people are now smarter about what they eat, the healthier the better. I took probiotics during the year but somehow stopped need to start again

  22. Wow look at the recipes to be made with this! Thanks for introducing this brand to me!

  23. I have been very conscious of what I have been eating for a few years now and have noticed a world of difference in my health. Small changes can make the world of a difference.

  24. I love Whole Foods’ 365 brand! It is so high quality like you mentioned, and they help make eating healthy a little more affordable.

  25. Coffee is a must for my mornings. Finding an organic coffee product sounds wonderful to incorporate some more all natural remedies in starting my day!

  26. This is all interesting to know!`I don’t know anything about probiotics, and need to look more into them! Anything to be healthier!

  27. This post was very interesting. I love my am coffee. 🙂 I also have recently became quite interesting in probiotics.
