Good morning ! Having some milk and nutella on animal crackers for breakfast before my coffee 😉 I know inflammation is my body trying to protect me from bad stuff but have no idea what the underlining effect is (just that we don’t like it and its not always comfortable nor do we even always know its happening)

    • sheNna Frame says

Good morning everyone. Woke up this morning with a tooth ache and fiance sick :/ got my son up and ready for school while everyone else slept. After getting him on the bus, the baby woke. My other two (fiance & daughter) are still asleep. Thankfully the baby is playing quietly. 🙂 Hows everyone else doing?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Morning, SheNna!
Doing great this morning. It was an early rise for me. I am changing my schedule, so early #AMCoffee is my cup ‘o tea!

I normally sleep til 645, but with the birds chirping early, I’m getting up early. Our new dog (1yr old boxer) is trying to get used to them outside the window. He is usually going crazy when they start. Lol

Inflammation – the underlining cause of chronic diseases like heart disease, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, obesity.

Please watch this video and ask your questions that will arise. You may be surprised what you discover.

well it seems I don’t care much for fermented food choices…I do like green tea and will increase my intake on that. I have a breakfast shake in the morning, then a granola or fruit for lunch, then healthy dinner…then small bowl of ice cream at night. I have the “pouch” that I cant get rid of. I just found out that I have an ovarian cyst and that could be causing the swelling in my abdomen and could be a partial cause to my weight gain and “newly pregnant looking pouch” on the belly. As far as inflammation, that is due to my knee surgeries. I do take a prescription when needed for anti inflammatory and that makes a huge difference. I just don’t like putting meds of any kind in my body, except for allergy med, that’s a necessity…achoo! FYI…in case you reply to this..i have to get to work..back later. have a great day ladies and smile through it all!

      • Suzanne C says

I also have a pouch (that’s from having kids) and I also have a large fibroid in my ovary, never really thought that could contribute! Likewise I think inflammation due to knee surgeries and arthritis aren’t going to contribute to these chronic diseases…but I could be wrong..

    • Suzanne C says

That was a GREAT video/slideshow! I learned more in those 11 minutes that 2 years of college bio!! My question is at what age should we get a C-RP test? I don’t recall ever having one and I’m not necessarily symptomatic but I do have family members with those chronic diseases so I am at risk in the future.

    • Suzanne C says

Also, I hadn’t heard of Syndrome X before, that was interesting. This was a very targeted weight loss plan put into simple terms. If you only make a few lifestyle changes like increasing the pre-probiotics and also reduces aminal products will you still lose weight? Or do you need to adjust all of them?

      • Carol Yemola says

I never heard of Syndrome X before either and I work in healthcare!

        • CoffeeTime says

          Carol,
Many doctors are overweight… that gives you an idea. Many of them don’t know how to deal with their obese and overweight patients, as they don’t know what to do with their own bodies. It is sad, but a fact.

          • Carol Yemola says

SOOOO true! I love the docs that are overweight and they tell YOU to lose weight. A bit of a double standard don’t you think? LOL

    • Wendi Watson says

it is a very informative video but i see a few things that cross each other! but on a whole i shared it with my mom because of the content in it!

    • Brianna Ketchum says

Wow that video was great..what age should you get the test?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Brianna,
The C-RP test is ordered by a doctor when you are in the risk category. But you can request it at any time! There’s no age restrictions for that.

I was participating in a clinical studies where we 3rd graders were tested for their levels of C-RP, known as “C reactive protein.” It’s always nice to know what levels they are in our bodies!

        • Carol Yemola says

I am an oncology/hematology nurse and I see the doctors ordering the C Reactive Protein test quit frequently.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I do know that fibromyalgia is worse with stress. I think that Is why this video makes a lot of sense to me. It is so hard sometimes to just get moving in the morning or sometimes any part of the day which will lead to depression and weight gain. My blood pressure is sometimes very high depending on the pain level for that day. It really does make a lot of sense. I have noticed some sensitivity to so foods or I have paid attention to it since be diagnosed about 9 yrs ago. There is some fruits that will make me more fatigued like blueberry.

    • Jessica Parent says

If you are on the slim side but don’t exercise regularly (but also don’t drink , eat a lot of animal products, nor have food allergies) are you at the same high risk ? I’m understanding lack of regular exercise is a Biggie for causes but wondering if it goes hand in hand with fat (and other high risk behaviors or if its just as dangerous on its own?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Jessica,
All factors are “factored in” per each individual.

Yes, being Overweight is one of the Factors that forms the Deadly Quartet for Chronic Diseases, unfortunately.

What we need to do is BE Aware of the Inflammation risks and causes, and live our lives by making decisions with the knowledge of it.
Obviously we cannot have it Perfect and 100%.
What we can do is Learn and Use the knowledge in our daily life.
The cumulative effect from our actions will be a healthier US!

    • I only have 2 questions…

When should we get tested (what age) and is this a test that should be retested.. like a mammogram???

    • Carol Yemola says

That was an interesting video. I would love to get the test but wonder if it would be covered by insurance. What ICD-9 code (or diagnosis code) would need to be used to cover it?

    • Karen Hinkle says

I myself have learned a lot from Boyds videos and he makes perfect scents I now have been eating more protine and watching my carbs and getting the gut foods and my yogurt and have started my extercise but one thing I have to do know more is get outside and get my vit D I need to loss 50 lbs and I have learned so much form the weightloss page its awesome and love what he said about fruits eat them don’t drink them I have to been eating mine great video

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

Exercise should be a part of everyone’s routine because it has so many benefits, but, what do you do if you’re physically unable to exercise?

    • Mary Fagans says

      I asked 3 questions, I hope that’s ok.

Do you know that Fermented Foods Lower the Inflammation in our bodies by producing multi-effect on our blood profile?

    – Fermented foods add good gut flora that is the key to your internal health
    – These foods would help you lose and maintain your optimal weight

We’ve just started a series of Top 12 Fermented Foods in our Weight Loss Group.

    amcoffeetop fermented foods

    • thia beniash says

hmph, who knew? I always thought buttermilk was a splurge and that it was fattening. thanks for the info. in baking I make my own buttermilk by adding vinegar to milk and waiting for it to “curdle”.

    • Lisa Nicholson says

I’m wondering if the Amish Friendship bread would be considered “fermented”. Although there is sugar in it. It’s the “chain” bread that people make then give away the starter. I’ve also done a fermented fruit that you make cake out of. It to has lots of sugar. My grandmother loved buttermilk. I will have to try it again, as a child I wasn’t crazy about it but will give it a try. Looking forward to hearing about the other items.

      • CoffeeTime says

        Lisa,
Though breads do have some fermentation involved in preparation and cooking, it is not the fermentation bi-products that we have in the foods like pickled stuff and liquid stuff. The bacteria needs to be live to have a potent effect on the body.
Breads, the majority of them, actually add to body’s inflammation.

      • Oh, I remember that stuff! Loved it!

    • Suzanne C says

Yes, I have known they are good for you I just have such a hard time incorporating them into our diets. Typically not a fan of taste and also they tend to be expensive and only available at natural health stores 🙁

    • Wendi Watson says

i have always heard that pickles are very good for you and your digestive system

    • That’s great cause I love pickles! And after my sweet baby arrives I definitely need to get my weight back to were I want it to be.

    • Brianna Ketchum says

Wow I did not know any of this at all I’m so glad I found out

    • Rebecca Swenor says

This is what my doctor was wanting me to take more of but I can stand vinegar or yogurt but can eat pickles and olives only. She told me to get the pro-biotics.

      • CoffeeTime says

Great probiotics food is KEFIR! Much more potent than even Greek Yogurt. Get it in your store and have a cup before going to bed.
I was growing up with Kefir every single night of my childhood, or close to every night!

    • Awesome lol.. my whole family except my 17 year old loves pickles.. we go thru jars of those a week…

    • Jessica Parent says

Never heard of Kefir…..but I know I like and eat a few feremented foods (including buttermilk, pickles and occasionally yogurt ) other than yogurt and some cheeses I had no idea about the health benefits of doing so. I highly dislike Greek yogurt though …blech

      • Carol Yemola says

Have you tired Oikos Greek Yogurt. I LOVE it and I hated Greek yogurt cause it tasted sour. This is a great one! I think you would love it.

        • Karen Hinkle says

that the same with me I didn’t like yogurt either but I love the Oikos Greek Yogurt they are good

    • Karen Hinkle says

I glad the weight loss page is back up in running I cant tell you all the great information that Boyd has to offer use and he explaines it in a way we can understand and he will answer your concerns to you all need to come to this on Wendsday it has so much information and its like having your own personal DR

    • Mary Fagans says

I am so glad this was part of our morning coffee today! I learned a lot about food and health and prevention!! Thank you so much!!

    • Carol Yemola says

Was glad to hear yogurt was one of those foods. I have a container of Greek yogurt everyday for lunch!

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

I’m not so sure I’d be comfortable approaching a Latina immigrant and asking her for help in making Chicha. What are the effects of buttermilk on diabetes?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Cynthia,
I have links for How to make buttermilk at home! Check my post here on the 1st couple of fermented foods with recipe links!

All these Fermented Foods are very low in sugar and are great for diabetics!

    • kelly Hubbard says

I just learned something new.. Buttermilk which I use in my fried Chicken………wow who knew

    • melissa augustus says

      that news to me

    • wendy c g says

Awesome, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the information.

  6. thia beniash says

Balancing our needs.. it sure is difficult. I work numerous jobs that are all flexed around my children’s schedule. I refuse to put them in any one else’s care. I choose to live on a tight budget and just work as much as I can when they are in school. I think it is so important to be there when then return from school and to participate with them when they do homework. I love to be the first one to hear about the highs and lows of their school day. I have talked to them and gave them a choice… we could have all the new stuff and new cars if mommy worked full time, or we could have lots of time together and used cars. They choose for me to be home.

    • thia beniash says

hmm, I swear I just read “how to balance your families needs” that’s why I typed what I did….then I posted and saw fermented foods… oh well, carry on

      • CoffeeTime says

        Thia,
It’s all in a good time and place!
Yes, balancing your needs add or reduce the STRESS, which is the culprit for INFLAMMATION as well.

Lower the stress, Lower the inflammation!

        You go it, GRL!

    • Suzanne C says

Wow, I respect this so much!! You are super mom! I stay at home, but due to financial reasons I am going back to work this summer 🙁 I completely commend you for your commitment!! Xoxo

  7. CoffeeTime says

    AM COFFEE #4

One of the major factors to LOWER Inflammation in our bodies and create a balanced health from within is Physical Activity. What is emphasized here is AEROBIC physical activity!

Clinical studies have shown that a brisk walk a few times a day can lower body’s inflammation and reduce your risks for many chronic diseases, like the Deadly Quartet we mentioned earlier: Heart Diseases, Hypertension (high blood pressure), Hyper Insulinemia and Obesity.

Cariloha has created specifically for you a BAMBOO FIT line of clothes to encourage us to get out there and be active. Whatever you choose – running, power walking, skipping or jumping, vacuuming your and neighbor’s house! – it will lower your body’s inflammation, thus, your risks for diseases.

Please go to this post and pick your preference for Bamboo Fit: Jacket or workout tank top?

hmph, who knew? I always thought buttermilk was a splurge and that it was fattening. thanks for the info. in baking I make my own buttermilk by adding vinegar to milk and waiting for it to “curdle”.

    • CoffeeTime says

That’s what my mom used to do.

      • Carol Yemola says

I do that now! I rarely have a need for buttermilk so doing the vinegar in regular milk is a quick substitute with the same results!

        • Rebecca Swenor says

No wonder I can stand the smell it has vinegar in it. My dad always drank buttermilk and we all thought it was a southern thing because he is from the south. He always told us it would grow hair on our chest.

  9. thia beniash says

I like the tank tops for women or the guy in the middle…I mean the shirt the guys in the middle is HOT…for my husband of course. lol

    • Suzanne C says

Hahaha agreed!! I actually like the zip jacket for my hubby..it’s so different for him and might encourage him to go for a jog with me sometime 🙂

    • Jessica Parent says

🙂 Me too -that’s my fav of the mens .

  10. Janice Dean says

Good morning! I’m babysitting today, so I will try to hop in and out. I personally, don’t have any problems with inflammation, but I do have friends that are experiencing the problems.

  11. Lisa Nicholson says

    I like the jacket.

  12. CoffeeTime says

    AM COFFEE #5

    PLUS, Inflammation also causes…
    – Arthritis, Dementia, Some Cancers, Irritable
Bowel, Premature Aging, AND the 4 noted above
    – Wears out your immune system

How do you know when you have it?
    – Ask your Physician for a “C-RP Test”
    – If you have an elevated reading, you are AT RISK
    – Children as young as 8 known to have High C-RP

    amcoffee

    • Suzanne C says

Also, I’m shocked that 8 year olds could have it, that’s just devastating! They have so many years left to live it’s not fair to have a chronic illness so young,

    • I had no idea that it could really cause that many issues! Does walking help prevent against it?

    • Brianna Ketchum says

Wow that’s sounds so scary. ..seeing that 8 year olds have it is really sad and scarey I for sure will ask for the test to be safe 🙂

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I don’t know if I ever had a C-RP test but I probably have because had every other test under the sun whic it took literally about 8 yrs to diagnose me with fibromyalgia.

    • I had no idea that children as young as 8 year old could be affected also.. ok so at what age is recommened to get tested…

      • Carol Yemola says

Children can have a high CRP due to an injury from falling. You have to look at the whole history picture before thinking something is wrong.

    • Jessica Parent says

I was very surprised to find out 10-12 % of young kids already were showing high levels. Much higher number affected than one would expect of children in elementary school .

    • thia Beniash says

I can’t believe young kids can heve these problems! Scary

    • Mary Fagans says

I am grateful for that video, because it is a wake up call for me. My mother has all 4 of the deadly quartet! I want to change mine and my son’s diet and activities right away!! Thank you so much!

    • Carol Yemola says

My only question is if you have the test and it is positive, it doesn’t show where the inflammation is. Is it generalized or specific to one area? How can you tell?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Carol,
C-RP test is a test that shows that the Inflammation is going on in the Entire body. it is Systemic inflammation.
The higher the number, the more severe it is.
The whole body is reacting, not just parts of it.
Constant state of inflammation opens up the door for anything from cancer to diabetes and a gazillion of other diseases to start their inching on the health.

With foods and exercise choices, we definitely should make our attempts to keep our bodies in homeostasis or balance.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

You have to specifically ask for them to run a C-RP test or is it generally included when they run a full blood panel?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Cynthia,
You have to ask for this test. I don’t think it’s still a must to include it into your general blood profile.

    • kelly Hubbard says

I was shocked to see an 8 year old can get it..

    • wendy c g says

My husband has arthritis, so with diet and exercise he is able to control some of the pain that comes with. Inflammation can cause a lot of harm to your body.

  13. sheNna Frame says

Love the blue work out tank but I have such a pouch that the jacket would be best because I like to be covered. Although the work out tank would make me feel better if I’m wearing it under my work shirt, helping control my fat 🙂

    • Karen Hinkle says

I am not shocked by and 8 year old because the kids today have to many hand held devices they don’t know how to go out and play or are not made to go out you see this every day at restrants in cars every where they are all on devices when we we kids we played outside and had our friends to play with times have changed its up to us the parent to get them motivated I know I have a 5 year old grandson I raise him with autism he has a ipad but for helping him with talking I have all educational apps on it but he also has a trampoline he jumps on all day long for 10 -20 min at a time and he playes with his cars legos ect

    What causes Inflammation?

    – Persistent Stress, Poor gut health, Food allergies
    – Diet high in simple carbohydrates, refined sugars
    – Lack of exercise
    – Excess alcohol
    – Too many animal products
    – Sugary drinks (including fruit juices), HFCS
    Excess body fat

    amcoffee

    • Suzanne C says

I could easily reduce at least 4 of those…as far as stress goes I’m a stay at home mom to 2 little boys..not sure I can ever reduce the stress! Lol, I do try to alleviate the stress though

    • gh….I don’t like that list…I’m such a worry wart and stress is something I can’t seem to get rid of :/ Also I’m totally addicted to Mt. Dew lol

      • CoffeeTime says

        Amber,
Soda and sugary drinks add to the internal inflammation!
Try to incorporate foods and physical activity, yoga, peace of mind activities into your life as well.
By the way, occasional sodas are ok, it’s making them a “staple” of food chain that could get us in deeper trouble.

    • Brianna Ketchum says

I’ve been trying to diet by cutting out most sugars which is really hard…and I’ve been trying tk exercise more but stress is pretty hard fpr me avoid I’m always nailed with something to stress on…also I’ve been cutting my coke for water 🙂

    • I could reduce all but stress lol.. I have 2 kids home all day long with me 18 mos and 6 mos.. and they cause there own stress lol… plus full time blogging.. and a husband that acts like a child himself in the afternoon.. my stress aint’ going anywhere lol

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have always been a meat lover but have cut back knowing what I know now. The stress is what I have a lot of trouble with because I have always had high anxiety which has gotten worse with age. I always said I took after my grandmother for the high anxiety. My lil sister is the one that got me into paying attention to what I eat as far as allergies goes, come to think of it. She was tested for food allergies and she has a lot of them.

    • Jessica Parent says

Ive got 2 on the list affecting my body (high levels of stress-6 kids will do that to you I guess) and lack of regular exercise (even though I feel like Im always on the go )Everything else on the list is pretty under control here (for the moment). I am physically active about half the year when the weather is nice…its winters I need work in that deptartment

    • thia Beniash says

Sugary drinks causes inflammation? Now I know to cut down on the sweet tea when inflammation is a problem. Thanks!

    • Carol Yemola says

YIKES! Guess I’ll stay away from the candy this Easter. Who knew sugar caused it? Not me!

    • Mary Fagans says

Between my son and I, we can and will change everything on this list. I don’t eat animal products except for chicken and tuna. I always knew it wasn’t good for us. I’m bookmarking everything from the a.m. coffee this morning because I think it’s very important information to have.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

5 out of 7 isn’t bad.. Actually, in this case, it really is. I really need to get on top of managing this. Perhaps, these have been my problems all along.. Maybe the reason I’m in so much pain every day and feel lousy in general.

    • kelly Hubbard says

I am gulity of eating poorly I will def be eating better now.. But I have already substituted Soda with water.. and drink Green tea already

    • wendy c g says

I try stay away from sugary foods. We have started eating more veggies and fruits. No sodas, junk foods or fast foods. It’s hard but can be done.
