Fibroids Prevention
With Dr. Karen Vieira
HASHTAG: #AMCoffee
From my personal experience, I had a few girl-friends who ended up finding out that they had fibroids after going through some absolutely unimaginable pains during our student years in college. For quite some time, the doctors could not pin point what was going on. But at the end, once they knew, the process of getting back on track was done with more peace and determination, and hope.
I have invited Dr. Karen Vieira to give us an overview about Fibroids and what matters the most for those of us who have never had to deal with them – it is PREVENTION. Please scroll down to comments to see the major discussion points that Dr. Karen Vieira outlined for us today.

Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that form in the uterus and may cause troubling symptoms for some women, especially if the fibroids become very large. Although fibroids are quite common in women of any age, there are a few simple strategies that can reduce the chances of getting fibroids or prevent them from growing.

good morning my daughter has it she is always in pain
Avoid processed foods
A diet that is high in sugar and unhealthy fats can increase the risk of developing fibroids. Processed foods such as hamburgers, sausages, cookies, and candy bars, for example, can cause an estrogen imbalance and lead to inflammation that promotes the growth of fibroids.
i wonder if my daughter know this this is her food source she eats but she is a skinny rail lol i shall tell her this
Karen,
As we know from many of our AM Coffee chats, INFLAMMATION is the KEY to sprouting diseases in our physical body.
Once there’s enough imbalance and a perfect sweet spot for inflammation to occur – boom, the ailments start to snowball.
Foods high in FIBER can truly help with all our dietary needs these days!

Eat fruits and vegetables – the easiest one, yes?
Fruits and vegetables such as apples, pears, broccoli, turnip and collard greens, cauliflower and cabbage are rich sources of folic acid, essential minerals, vitamins E, K, and C, beta-carotene, and fiber. These types of nutrients prevent the growth of fibroids by promoting detoxification and balancing estrogen levels.
oh them are my favorite food eat them all the time

Take natural supplements
Supplements like fish oil, flaxseed oil, milk thistle, B-complex, and chasteberry regulate estrogen levels and help cleanse the body of toxins that stimulate fibroid growth. They also reduce inflammation that is linked to fibroid development.
i have not hear of some of them but i will have to give them a try
I think that many of us are already taking a multivitamin or B-complex.
My daily intake of Omega-3 DHA-rich supplement is a Must!
I have not heard of Chasteberry and will look it up.
Here’s what I found about CHASTEBERRY from Wikipedia.
“Vitex agnus-castus, also called vitex, chaste tree, chasteberry, Abraham’s balm, lilac chastetree, or monk’s pepper, is a native of the Mediterranean region. It is one of the few temperate-zone species of Vitex, which is on the whole a genus of tropical and sub-tropical flowering plants. Theophrastus mentioned the shrub several times, as agnos (άγνος) in Enquiry into Plants.
Vitex, also a traditional plant in Africa, is a little-known fruit plant that has potential to improve nutrition, boost food security, foster rural development and support sustainable landcare.
The leaves and tender stem growth of the upper 10 cm (3.9 in), along with the flowers and ripening seeds, are harvested for alternative medicinal purposes. The berries are harvested by gently rubbing the berries loose from the stem. The leaves, flowers, and/or berries may be consumed as a decoction, traditional tincture, cider vinegar tincture, syrup, elixir, or simply eaten straight off the plant as an alternative medicinal food. A popular way of taking Vitex is on awakening as a simple 1:1 fluid extract, which is said to interact with hormonal circadian rhythms most effectively.
Vitex agnus-castus is used to alleviate symptoms of various gynecological problems. All evidence is limited to standardised controlled extracts such as used in Germany, different extracts or herbal mixes may have significantly different properties and safety issues. Some of the modern uses include premenstrual syndrome, abnormal uterine bleeding disorders and mastodynia.
Good evidence and safety exists for these uses:
PMS
Cyclical mastalgia
Mild hyperprolactinemia
Luteal phase defect
No specific clinical studies but use partially supported by clinical evidence on symptoms and mechanism of action:
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), improvement of symptoms
Uterine fibroids, control of bleeding symptoms
Emerging uses (with very early evidence):
Menopause, mechanism of action completely unclear.[citation needed]
Prostate disorders, Rarely used but given its mode of action theoretically interesting,
Migrainous women with premenstrual syndrome.”

Drink herbal teas
Herbal teas like red raspberry, nettle, dandelion, yellow dock, milk thistle, and chasteberry tone the uterus and improve the health of additional reproductive organs, which makes it harder for fibroids to form and grow. Sipping these herbal teas will also restore hormone balance and decrease inflammation.
i cant drink tea i guess i have not found one i like any suggestions
KAREN,
I Love herbal teas that are a mixture of citrus flavors. Any citrus flavor – it’s my go-to tea.
I also love LAVENDER tea.
The tea mixes that are out there are in thousands.
I do not like any of the teas that are sold in a regular store – our Publix. They just do not have aroma or flavor to them.
I love STASH brand and some online options.

Exercise regularly
Regular exercise helps reduce your chances of getting fibroids and actually the more you exercise, the less likely you are to get fibroids. Exercise promotes regular ovulation, which is important for preventing fibroids from forming.
Your exercise could be walking, taking short breaks from the sitting work projects, using resistant strings, and anything that elevates your heart rate.
Talk to your family physician when starting any exercise routine!
well running after 3 grand kids is that exercise because after doing this all day i am tired
