Do you have any gadgets at home that were supposed to help you to get a smoother skin, to bust some zits, to even out those fine line on your face. Or evenΒ  better, to bust all those fat cells in the comfort of your home?

We all have some devices that we bought at some point of time to do what they’re supposed to do, but never actually did.

Some gadgets do live up to their promise though.

Here are some devices that were tested and produced the highest percentage of happy users.

FYI: I have not used them! But would like to explore a couple of options!

    • julie ferguson gould says

Good Morning Everyone. Hope everybody is having a good morning so far. Funny you ask…Yes, well I just threw it away yesterday. I had a Blow Dryer that I had for over 5 yrs and I have not used it for about 4 yrs Just was sitting in the cupboard lol

    • I’m more into the beauty gooks and gunks not so much the gizmos, although I would love to try one of those facial thingies… lol

    • wendy c g says

Good morning everyone, I don’t really have any gizmos. Just a hair dryer and curling iron.

    • Raye Wiedner says

Hi all, I’ve been missing in action here for a while, and so happy to be home and to be back with the group.
I can’t think of any gadgets I have now, but I admit to a couple in the past. There are some I’d love to try though.

    • Virginia Rogers says

Good Afternoon all, have not owned many, never usually have a lot of extra money for myself. There are a few have seen that sound good, but always wondered how well actually work. πŸ™‚

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Good afternoon!!!! Just wanted to drop by and say hello πŸ™‚ Never had any gizmos for beAuty because I’m not paying 300 for something that doesn’t work lol. I have no doubt there are some amazing products out there, just either can’t afford them or don’t trust them lol

    The mani maximizer

Red Carpet Manicure Starter Kit, $65; ULTA

How it works The polishes harden when exposed to the LED wavelength for a salon-style gel finish.

Our tester’s take Despite having a manicure that held up for two weeks, our tester was turned off by the process. “Your nails have to dry fully between each step or you’ll have subpar results,” she said.

Expert analysis It is legit, reports celebrity manicurist Jin Soon Choi, who notes the mani will last as long as the salon kind.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

Okay I have never seen one of these and was wondering what it was. I could use one for my nails because I need heavy duty nails. I bite my nails when they chip or etc.

      • julie ferguson gould says

Yes I used to get my nails done all the time when I was working and they would use these at the salon. They work great for me. I worked at a Contractors Desk / Delivery Desk at Lowes for many years and my nails held up for over 2 weeks sometimes . Great invention for sure πŸ™‚

    • I have to be careful to do my mani at the start of my baby’s nap, as taking him out is a guaranteed nail wrecker… I so want to try one of those… I need to tell my husband sometime around January … (our anniversary)

    • wendy c g says

I would love to try this, as I do my nails at home.

    • Raye Wiedner says

I’ve seen these and wondered how they worked. It may sound silly, but I wonder if you could use it on toenails too? Daughter’s insurance pays for her toenails to be done, but then the polish is wrecked within a couple of days.

    • Virginia Rogers says

That have not seen but do not have very good luck keeping nails, always breaking!! πŸ™‚

    • Mandi Gilliam says

So you can use any nail polish?

    The acne eraser

IlluMask Anti-Acne Light Therapy Mask, $30; ULTA

How it works This welder-style mask emits blue light to kill acne-causing bacteria and red light to reduce inflammation, promising clearer skin after 30 days of use.

Our tester’s take Sure, it looks kooky, but it worked. “I put it on, hit the button and the lights did their thing,” she said. “A few weeks later, I noticed fewer breakouts by my chin.”

Expert analysis “There are some great studies showing repeated treatments with blue light reduce acne,” notes Dr. Jacob.

    The face lifter

NuFace Trinity Facial Toning Device, $325; mynuface

How it works The tool emits microcurrentsβ€”tiny electric chargesβ€”to stimulate skin cells for a tightening effect.

Our tester’s take On the highest setting, this felt like a static charge on her face (which she didn’t love). The plus side? “My husband complimented my skin and told me I was glowing,” she said.

Expert analysis “It’s noninvasive and can temporarily tighten the brows, jawline and cheeks,” says Francesa Fusco, MD, a dermatologist in New York City

    • Rebecca Swenor says

This I may have seen on TV but I am not sure. I would buy this one if I had that kind of money for sure. πŸ™‚

    • julie ferguson gould says

Kinda reminds me of the Tenz Unit I use on my shoulder…Maybe I should try it on my face. Gotta tell you a funny thing….My sister wanted to tighten the skin on her face so she tried Hymroid cream LOL She thought if it shrunk them maybe it would tighten her skin .. She says it kinda worked but I dont know if I would try it.

    • wendy c g says

      I wouldn’t try this one.

    • Virginia Rogers says

Wow that looks neat could use that!! πŸ™‚

    • Mandi Gilliam says

This sounds like the tens machine I was prescribed. Painful and uncomfortable but did help with my back pain lol. Dont think that I could justify the price on this.

    • Raye Wiedner says

Pretty pricey, but I’ve heard good things about it. I’ll just deal with my wrinkles, I’m a cheapskate lol.

    The DIU Whitener

Glo Science Glo Brilliant Personal Teeth Whitening Device, $199; SEPHORA

How it works This mouthpiece uses heat and light to activate a whitening gel.

Our tester’s take “It’s easy to useβ€”I kept it in while watching TV,” she said. And it worked: Her stains faded in five days.

Expert analysis “What I like most is the desensitizing agent in the peroxide gel,” which makes whitening more tolerable, says Jack Ringer, DDS, president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Alas, you’ll need to see a pro for truly dramatic results.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have seen this on TV or something like this one. I would love to have this with all the coffee I drink. I have never heard anything bad about this one.

    • julie ferguson gould says

Great thing for us Coffee O Holics πŸ™‚

    • wendy c g says

I’ve seen this before. I don’t think I could stand to keep it in my mouth.

    • Virginia Rogers says

I have seen these, look really neat, but heard many of them remove enamel after long usage?

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Now this I would give a try!!!

    • Raye Wiedner says

I’m wondering how much more effective this is than the usual strips or tooth trays. It’s a little pricey if it doesn’t do a noticeably better job than those, and I’d also like to know if it damages the enamel in any way.

    The Hair Zapper

Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X, $449; TriaBeauty

How it works This diode laser emits energy that targets the pigment in the hair follicle, destroying it so hair stops growing.

Our tester’s take Within two weeks of treating coarse chin hair, it grew in finer and more slowly. “Though the treatments are a little painful,” she said, “they’re worth it.”

Expert analysis The laser hits a small area, so it’s best for the bikini line, armpits and face, says Carolyn Jacob, MD, a Chicago dermatologist.

    The Callus Blaster

    Clarisonic Pedi System, $199; CLARISONIC

How it works High-speed oscillation plus a buffing brush, smoothing disk and treatment creams help soften feet.

Our tester’s take After using it just twice, our staffer noted significantly softer, callus-free feet. In her words: “Magic!”

Expert analysis “The device is safer than other scrapers, which can lead to infection,” says Doris Day, MD, clinical associate professor of dermatology at New York University School of Medicine. (Avoid if you have diabetes.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have always wanted one of these but never could afford one.

    • wendy c g says

I would love to have one of these.

    • julie ferguson gould says

OMG I could use one really bad for my feet. I have Bi Lateral Plantar Fasiitis and really this wonderful thing I got from my dad. They are like callouses/warts that grow inside and wrap around the nerves in the bottom of my feet…Its the reason why I had to quit work . I cant stand or walk for more than 30 minutes at a time Its a real pain

    • Virginia Rogers says

      Another could really use!! πŸ™‚

    • Mandi Gilliam says

My boyfriends feet could really use these!!!!! OMG they are all dry and callused, skin cracked, looks outright painful!!!! So yes if I had the money I would buy this for sure!

    • Raye Wiedner says

I think we could all use a little help keeping our feet in good shape.

    The Cellulite Buster

Bliss FatGirlSlim Lean Machine, $145; SEPHORA

How it works Roll this handheld device over cellulite-prone areas to reduce the appearance of orange-peel skin.

Our tester’s take It took a few tries to get the hang of, but our guinea pig found it painless, simpleβ€”and effective. “My skin seemed immediately firmer,” she reported.

Expert analysis “The Lean Machine makes cellulite look slightly better,” confirms Jeanine Downie, MD, a dermatologist in Montclair, N.J. “But like any nonsurgical cellulite treatment, the effects are temporary.”

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I think this is my dream machine. lol I would so love this one for my thighs and bum.

    • julie ferguson gould says

This would be a Miracle worker for me I have what people have always called “Thunder Thighs” πŸ™‚

    • Virginia Rogers says

This sounds neat, probably something would not use as much as some of the others though πŸ™‚

    • Mandi Gilliam says

As a consumer I would be looking for more permanent results but I think any woman would love this!

    • Raye Wiedner says

I’m wondering how long the effects last….how temporary? Would it last through a day at the beach or only for an hour or two?

      • CoffeeTime says

These fat-busters need to be tested.
They definitely can produce results, BUT these are very cosmetic and on the surface.
To lose significant weight, this machine would not do its job. I am very much sure.
But for, say, cosmetic affect for those who do not need to lose a lot of weight, it may work.

        So glad you’re doing it!
