Good Morning Ladies. The one thing that comes to mind is high heels I wore for my sister”s wedding. Had to take them off.

Good morning! I have worn uncomfortable shoes for things like weddings but always end up taking them off at the reception!

    • Good Morning All. It is raining here but at least it is warmer and not snowing!

Thinking back, I used to bartend in heels. I think now, how the heck did I do that!

    • Jessica Parent says

Good morning!!I wont have much to contribute to this convo 😉 I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy….I really can’t think of one thing I ever did for fashion and was uncomfortable because I really cant think of anything I’ve ever done for fashion…..Comfort has always been #1 for me and my style (or lack thereof as my hubby and kids would say). I hate heels, flipflops( hate having something between my toes) Skinny jeans are the worst-lol, sheepskin boots are oogly, don’t have much boob for bras to need to support 😉 ,ect…ect…) I did wear green contacts for a few months when I was a teenager and would only wear one (so I had 1 green 1 blue eye to throw people off and they were not too comfy-used to dry to my eye) and dressed “hoochie” once or twice for my hubby’s benefit and I was VERY uncomfortable and out of my element

    • Hello. I would say I wear skinny jeans. Sometimes, they aren’t very comfortable, but look good.

Stilettos are fun, but are they worth the look and feel?
    stilettos hight heel shoes

    Cons and Healthy Hazards:

    1. Narrow toes
Toes scrunch up causing them to “shorten and hammer against the shoe wall.
Can lead to corns and fungal lesions.

    2. Heel height
Your weight is thrown forward the higher shoe heels you wear, and placed on the balls of your feet. That could cause a chronic pain, if you wear them regularly.
Solution is to limit stiletto wear and buy shoes that have a stong arch support and good weight distribution.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I am one that has a high arch on my feet so it is super hard to wear high heels. I try to get the heel that is no more than an inch high with thick heel. My height is only 4’11” so I need a little height added. lol

    • I feel it depends on the event, if I’m going out for a night on the town, I want to look & feel great, So I chose my heels carefully, for look, and style, and comfort, but I wear high heels alot #AmCoffee

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I’ve tried to wear them but they are just too painful for me. When I was younger, I would suffer through it but those days are past!

      • Karen Hinkle says

I use to wear them but now I am more of bare foot girl I don’t care for any shoes for long period of time I guess its the country girl coming out of me but at one time I did were them not comfy at all

      • Rebecca Swenor says

        I agree 🙂

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I can’t walk in these! LOL So no worries on wearing them here! Now give my a thick heel and I’m ok but balancing on those little tips – forget it – I’d be flat on my face in no time!

    • Jessica Parent says

Not to me!! I tried a pair on once (my sister has a whole collection!) My feet hurt within a minute and walking??!!! Lol Forget about it! I couldn’t to save my life 😉

    • julie ferguson gould says

I used to wear shoes like this but no more for me. Im lucky if I can make it through a shopping trip in my tennis shoes. I used to have high arches and they fell. Now Im flat foot and have terrible foot pain daily. I see those young girls and I just want to tell them how sorry they will be later .. 🙁

      • CoffeeTime says

I never wore any high heels till after I graduated from college. Then one day I discovered the heaven of high heels! I do though go for comfortable fit and buy expensive shoes. I do spend on shoes, but it’s worth for my values that I have for my feet comfort and look.

      • I used to wear these as well. Never had a problem lasting the whole night in them. After I had my son I would not wear them anymore. Heck now a regular heel gives me aches.

    • I can’t do it…I have a few pair of boots and high heels..I dont wear them very often. .maybe twice a year..and not for long

    • I would say yes! They are just too cute not to wear and I’m only 5’5. I need a little height, especially when wearing long pants/jeans.

    wool winter boots

What is the Deal with Wool Winter Boots?

Huge pros lie within the comfortable warm feeling that comes with these boots. But… they are totally unsupportive of your arch!
“Foot arches frequently collapse in boots like these and, according to Mancuso, as the foot arch lowers, the rest of the foot elongates and widens, which can exacerbate bunions and arch injuries.”

Are you a proud owner of these? Share your opinion!

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I invested in a pair of Timberland boots (knee high, zipper, and suede) and they are the best boots I ever owed. The are so warm and they support my arch completely. I will only get these kind from now on. They had cost $175 but well worth he price. 🙂

    • I live in the south and I don’t have a pair of wool boots, I have a couple of pairs of boot but there are more fashion, leather, suede, both high heels #AmCoffee

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I have to say, they are very cute but I do not own a pair. I’m a little more practical when it comes to boots. I want my feet to stay dry and warm. If I have to be in them all day, they also need to be comfortable!

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I love these! I am in the deep south though and we only get to wear them a few times out of the year!

    • Jessica Parent says

My daughter wears these….lol.I think most are ugly but got to say they sure are fuzzy and comfortable til they get wet in the snow (I put hers on here and there to check the mail..run to the store ,ect)

      • I think they are ugly as well but yes they are nice and cozy especially for the cold days. I have one pair of Ugg’s that I never wear. Never really did wear them when I got them either.

    • julie ferguson gould says

Im in California and I do not own a pair but my daughter and niece both wear these.

    • I have a pair that I throw on if I have to go somewhere real fast in the winter

    • I have never worn any of these kinds of boots. It’s just too hot in The South to wear them.

    sports bra
Sports Bras are great, but how great loss can they actually provide to you?

“Without adequate support, your breasts can strain during your workout. Nethero recommends a bra-sized sports bra for structure and support. It will keep your breasts steady and reduce breast bounce by 70%.

Without support, breast ligaments can become thin and brittle and eventually break. “You cannot re-bulk your breasts once they are strained,” says Nethero. “Only surgery can change that.”

It is recommended that you wear a good supportive bra all the time.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

Sports bras are what I wear in the summer with tank tops etc. At my age when everything starts going south you need a good bra period.

    • I wear alot of sport bras because I live in the south and it is hot here most of the year, so I’m always shopping for sport bra with lots of support, & style, I like the KIAVA brand, a little pricey but worth it to me for the support. #AmCoffee

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I have a few sportsvbras that are wonderful. They were much more expensive than your average sports bra but worth it, especially for running. I don’t bother with the cheap one’s anymore. After a couple washes, they are useless to me.

    • Karen Hinkle says

oh I don’t were sports bra I were a good bra to take care of my big chest but I have heard to help with the sagging take your bra off when ever you can it helps keep the muscels strong and will help so when at home my girls are free and let me tell u they are big but at 47 they are not drooping

      • I used to always wear a bra even sleeping. I am top heavy but I can say the “girls” held up. When I had my son I stopped wearing to bed. But I am back at it because they are falling.

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I wear them under my uniforms because they are just so much more comfortable than a regular underwire bra when you have a bullet proof vest on! 🙂

    • Jessica Parent says

Nursing 4 kids strained my already very small breasts 😉 I don’t think it even matters if I wear a bra-they hardly “bounce” without one 😀 I do occasionally wear a sports bra but prefer regular ones (without underwires unless Im going out on the town-then I occasionally sport a “wonder” bra

    • julie ferguson gould says

No sports bra for me. I have never really liked them.

    • I used to wear a bra 24 7..but anymore..

    • I always wear a supportive bra. I’m a D, so I can’t get away with not wearing a good bra. Support is a must!

    bra sizing

Regular Bras sizing: What to go after.

Are you one of those women who are using Smaller Size Bras to minimize their look? That can be dangerous to your health.

“These are not supportive and cause the breasts to lose firmness,” says “bra whisperer” Susan Nethero, chief fit strategist for Intimacy boutiques.

Women may also pull the straps of regular bras too tight. According to Nethero, bra straps should only contribute 10 percent of the bra’s total support.

“The average woman is a D-cup or DD and the average breast is 10 to 12 ounces, which is quite a lot of weight on the bust line and shoulder,” says Nethero. Extra weight on the shoulders can lead to headaches, neck strain and numbness in arms and hands. A fit specialist at a bra boutique or department store can help you find the right size and style so you don’t have to sacrifice comfort.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I can wear any where from B cup to a D cup so every bra or brand it different. My sister had a breast reduction about a year ago because she was so big on top and it was putting strain on her shoulders. Now she is two different sizes one D and one DD now. Doc said there really isn’t a difference. Hello!!!. yes you can tell. She lives in MN by the way and was suppose to be top surgeon who did it. He won’t redo it either and she can’t sue. Just make sure to research not only the good but the bad if you choose surgery. My niece had surgery here U.P of MI and has no problems.

      • I went from a DD to a DDD/F after my son. I have always had back problems. Funny thing people above mentioned wearing a sports bra for comfort. I am the opposite it hurts my shoulders to wear my sports bra all day.
I have always said after I am done having children I want a reduction. Bras are too expensive for my 34DDD/F self. I do not understand the girls out there that want to have my size. It’s not worth it.

      • My sister had a breast reduction about 4 years ago. She was a FFF OR GGG. She couldn’t walk up stairs with out hurting and having chest and back pain..is is now a DD

    • You are telling me, I know what she means, #AmCoffee

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I would love to get a professional sizing. I don’t have a single comfortable and supportive bra. I have to say I’m very surprised that the average woman is a D cup. I would not have thought that at all.

      • Karen Hinkle says

I thought about a reduction to I would love to be normal 40 DDD that to much and I would love to loss some of it I would not miss it

    • Amanda Alvarado says

Well I usually have the opposite problem! LOL I have a hard time finding a bra that I fill the cups out in! I am between a B and C so a B is too small and I spill out but a C is still kinda big. I tend to buy the padded bras because of this! I was barely a B before I started having kids!

    • Jessica Parent says

I buy my bras in the little girls dept (that’s the only place I seem to easily find ones that fit these days…now that “normal” is B,C,D, DD. Im between half of an A and an A-Lol) I do think Im guilty of pulling my straps too tight though-its the only way the darn thing stays up where its supposed to

      • Amanda Alvarado says

LOL Jessica – before I had my ds (almost 21 years ago), I hated having to shop in the little girls department for my bras…I wanted the pretty ones but could never find any in my size!

        • Jessica Parent says

I hate it too-I’m too old for cupcakes and bows on my bras 😉 I go for basic colors -shoot I see 11 yr old boys these days that are bigger than me (but not in the bra dept)

          • Oh that is the truth and really sad. Boys with “boobs” is just a sign of how the kids these days are obese. (yes, I know some can not control the man boobs as it is a condition for some but more than less the others are due to obesity)

      • julie ferguson gould says

I can relate Jessica I am about a B When I go up in weight I am C……..But D Hell Not in this house lol

        • Jessica Parent says

Lol – Funny thing is my Daughter wears a DD and its they are too small on her (I can fill it ,even overfill it a bit -if I put it on my Ass 😀 )

          • Rebecca Swenor says

Okay had to laugh at that comment Jessica. 🙂

          • CoffeeTime says

            Funny you are, MZ Jessica!

          • julie ferguson gould says

I so agree with that one Jessica. Always wished they had a surgery to remove from my azz and put in my boobs 🙂

          • Amanda Alvarado says

ROFL! Too funny but so right! One of the reason I don’t like regular undies…my butts too big for the size I need to cover it (I end up with a constant wedgie!) and if I go bigger, they don’t fit around the top!

    • I used to be a B or small C. But after I had kids I now wear a large C or D depending on the brand

      • Jessica Parent says

Must be nice….lol I get smaller everytime I have a kid (and Im about to have my 6th-Im worried they are going to disappear 😮 ) – I started at a small C / full B

    • Sadly, yes. I am always trying to minimize mine by wearing minimizing bras. After reading this post, I will be reconsidering it.

    tight belts

A cinched waist could be a path to a more serious condition

    Tight waist belts

“At some point in their lives, up to 20 percent of women experience various degrees of irritable bowel syndrome, says Deborah Coady, MD, of Soho Obstetrics and Gynecology in New York City.

“If you’re prone to bloating, cramping or irregular bowel movements, opt for an outfit that doesn’t require a cinched waist, or simply loosen your belt for a little relief.”

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I can actually say I never really had a waist because of my body build. I am finding as I get older I need a belt now which is strange to me. Since I could remember I have always worn loose fitting clothes do to my mind set on my body image. At my age now it doesn’t matter to much to me anymore.

    • I dont wear too many belts, really only with jeans #AmCoffee

      • Karen Hinkle says

I have never worn belts but I have a daughter who is and she has all kinds of problem I will have to let her know this

    • Amanda Alvarado says

Waist?!?! What is that?! I haven’t seen my waist since I was in HS! LOL Besides I can’t stand anything above my belly button and I have a shorter torso so where my waist should be is above my bellybutton! No belts for me!

    • Jessica Parent says

I don’t like things squishing my middle so never really been a waist cincher….the occasional belt I wear is loose and on my hips

      • CoffeeTime says

I remember wearing tight belts when it was all rave in 80’s. Sometimes it did feel uncomfy. I did not go into extreems like some of my fella girls, making their waists 12 inches, but I did wear tight belts.

        • Jessica Parent says

I used to try and wear tight camis to hold my pudge in but it always got out and rolled up on me-Lol 😉 I do remember when everyone was wearing them with their Big hair 😉

          • Rebecca Swenor says

Ok now I think we are showing our age when we remember the 80’s. lol Which I still like the music though.

          • Amanda Alvarado says

I am so glad I’m not the only one with this problem! Those body shapers that are supposed to hold you in…don’t work…they ALWAYS roll up and don’t do their job!

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I had no idea that would cause the problems mentioned. This could explain a few things in my life. I don’t wear tight belts but my pants always feel tight around the waist.

      • julie ferguson gould says

I dont have a body shape to wear belts so I rally have never worn them. Thank Goodness because I suffer from IBS and Im sure I would be more miserable with it now I know…….Good information here I love this …Ok Coffee needed…..:)

    • I have large hips belts just make me look larger.

    • I usually don’t wear belts, but this is good advice.

    heavy earrings

    What’s Wrong with heavy Bling?

Here’s what I found from Adam Kolker, MD, associate clinical professor of surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, who is dealing on the regular basis with repairing torn skin structured from jewelry “injuries.”

    – “You start with a piercing that has about 5 to 10 mm of skin below it,” he says. “Over time the lower skin will stretch as it is pulled down by the weight.” The tissue expands and the hole can widen making it difficult to sport studs.

    – Heavy earrings can also completely tear through the earlobe, an injury that takes a long time to repair and heal.

It’s OK to wear heavier earrings for special occasions. Just make it not a daily thing.

    Photo: Bebe

    • Rebecca Swenor says

It is to uncomfortable for me to wear heavy jewelry so I have always stayed away from do so.

    • I wear earring daily, most are not heavy, but I love dangle ones because I have long hair and you can’t see the otherwise. #AmCoffee

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I can’t wear anything but solid gold because my ears get infected so dangly, heavy earrings are out for me because I can’t afford solid gold ones! 😉 Gee seems I’m lucking out on all of these since they don’t apply to me and I don’t have to worry about them! LOL

    • Karen Hinkle says

I would never be able to were them to heavy I would get a headack and I would not want to hurt my ears

    • Jessica Parent says

I used to like heavy earrings but as a teen my grandma taught me a valuable life lesson-her heavy earrings caused her ear to tear all the way down (to where she couldn’t put an earring in it at all without re-piercing higher up) I stopped immediately . I very occasionally wear a pr of “light” small silver hoops or posts but typically don’t wear any jewelry at all (another “girly thing” I never really liked-jewelry)

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I really can’t stand heavy earrings. I own a few pairs that I really like but every time I put them on, I end up taking them off 5 minutes later. I’m all about comfort!

      • CoffeeTime says

        Jennifer,
I am not a fan of heavy bling. It is not my style either. Sometimes I see very tastefully done jewelry that matches person’s personality. But most of the time, it is not even looking good!

    • These earrings just hurt my ears looking at the image. Yes, they look cute but No, for the wear.

    • I agree. I usually only wear heavy earrings on special occasions.

  9. CoffeeTime says

    vanity lenses

Vanity lenses: How they can shut down the whole world for you?

“Changing your eye color or even iris shape can be fun for costume parties, but if worn incorrectly vanity contact lenses can become a site for sore eyes. “People think they can walk into a costume shop or flea market and purchase vanity lenses that are safe,” says Susan Mazure, FCLSA, contact lens specialist at Theo E. Obrig, Inc. in New York City.”

“The truth is many of the lenses sold through these outlets are not FDA-approved, and therefore the lenses are not held to the same high standards other manufacturers’ lenses are.”

You also need an eye doctor to make sure you have the proper fit. A lens that is too tight can lead to redness, edema, corneal irritation and, occasionally, infections.

Too loose and vision will be compromised since wearers will most likely be looking through a portion of the lens that has opaque color or images on it.

If you’re interested in vanity lenses, talk to your eye doctor and then follow strict cleansing routines, such as soaking contacts in multi-purpose solutions and changing the solution every every seven days, Mazure says.

Obviously, it is a problem that could arise with teenagers more than anybody else. Conversations and parental guidance are at peak of importance as the preventative measure from wearing and being fascinated by such “fashion” freaky outfit for eyes.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

In boot camp years ago, there was a girl who had light purple contacts and at that time I had never heard of colored contacts like that. Her eyes wear beautiful. I have trouble wearing regular contacts much less colored ones.

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I’ve worn colored ones before in HS…that were bought through an eye doctor. I used to go to Mexico (before it got bad across the border) and buy my contacts there from an eye doctor. The same contacts, same Rx, same box but a quarter of the price! I’ve always thought those costume ones are cool but no way am I spending the money for a pair of contacts that will get worn a few times!

    • Jessica Parent says

That’s when I wore them -as a teen 🙂 Back then though they only had “normal” colored lenses blue, green browns and I did get them through my eye dr.

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I’ve never worn contacts before. I always thought it would be fun to change my eye color but unless i’m going amateur sleuthing, I probably have no need. 🙂

      • julie ferguson gould says

I have always eye troubles and told I couldnt wear contacts. Always thought it would be fun for a change but I have been told by too many people how beautiful my eye color is, So I guess Im glad I cant wear them 🙂

    • I did get some in high school to change my eyes to turquoise green..they were itchy and uncomfortable. .my eyes were always watering

    • I have never worn contact lens. I afraid to put things in my eyes, even eye drops. I hate them.

    flip flops

Fond of flip-flops, think twice before making them a staple for your daily wear.

“Flips-flops do similar damage as sheepskin boots—they allow the foot to move without guidance, which can collapse arches and cause the plantar fascia ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot to pull, stretch and strain.

There are women who say they experience foot pain but that their flip flops are their most comfortable shoes,” says Mancuso. “They don’t realize the damage and pain these shoes can cause.”

Choose sandals with a more comfortable mold, such as those made by Dana Davis, recommends Mancuso. “They’re fashionable but made with a better last.”

    • Rebecca Swenor says

Because of my high arch I only wear flip flops when I know I am not walking far. I would love to find a pair that I could wear without having the pain.

    • I love my sandals, all kinds high heels, flats, short heels, I wear different sandals everyday again living in the south, warm weather most of the year, I need alot of different styles for my many different looks. #AmCoffee

    • Karen Hinkle says

I canot stand flip flops the are to uncomfortable for me I rather go bare foot and that thing between your toe bugs me

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I have a pair of Okibashi (sp?) that have arch support and they are comfortable! This is one that I am guilty of. When it’s 100+ every day during the summer, you don’t want to have your feet covered!

    • Jessica Parent says

I do wear sandals in the summer at least occasionally but I like the ones that strap around my foot and ankle- I hate feeling like my shoe is going to fall off and hate things between my toes 🙂 I also prefer to be barefoot or in sneaks

    • Jennifer Hiles says

I never would have thought that flip-flops where a danger! Great information today. I suppose this means a lot of sandals are not very good for your feet either?

      • CoffeeTime says

        Jennifer,
It is correct: Those FLATs that are now in full swing, for a fashionable item to wear, are Not good for our arches. Lots of aches will be coming from that source.

    • julie ferguson gould says

I so know about the fasca ligiment. With Bilateral Plantar Fasiitis for the last 10 yrs I know that these flip flops may be cute but they will ruin your feet ..I DO NOT wish this pain in my feet to anyone Not even the worst person I know….Having this has ruined my life. Cant work and cant walk to long so it ruined my outdoor life enjoyment also.

    • I wear all kinds of shoes. In the summer, I tend to live in sandals. I wear flip flops sometimes when it really hot outside

    tight skinny jeans

Tight skinny jeans is more than a slight discomfort.

Here’s a conversation with Dr. Coady, the vulvar pain specialist.

Although cigarette-style jeans and barely-there underwear are “in,” vaginal and skin infections are always out.

“I am amazed with the variability in vulvar and vaginal sensitivity, elasticity and toughness among different women,” says Coady. “This is why some women feel fine in thongs and tight jeans and others are very uncomfortable.” For all women, though, tough seams and rough edges on intimate clothing can easily cause small breaks in protective skin layers, which allows for fungal growth and bacterial infections.

“The heat and friction of sexual activity can make these infections worse,” Coady says.

“I advise using a non-medicinal skin protection without chemicals, like Aquaphor, vitamin E oil, safflower oil, or olive oil on the areas under clothing edges to prevent irritation.”

Interesting. I am one that likes perfect fitting jeans not to tight not to loose. The thong thing has never been something I would be comfortable wearing as well as going commando. Not for me. 🙂

    • Only on special outing would I wear tight jeans, I go for comfort! #AmCoffee

when I was a teen tight was ok with me but age changes you more comfy fitting for me I want to feel relaxed and not all tied up

I make sure my skinny jeans are stretchy! 😉 I can’t sit if they have no stretch! I have a few favorite pairs from Old Navy that fit wonderfully! I like my barely there undies too! But I only buy 100% cotton – Target’s are my favs. Victoria Secret’s cotton v-strings were my fav of all time until they changed the style years ago and started falling apart after a few washes.

Lol -My favorite (most comfy) undies are my hubbys jockeys ….not that I never wear thongs but I feel like dental floss would be just as comfortable and cover about the same area. I do love me some yoga pants-get the “tight” look without the discomfort (but I cant wear the jockeys with them thanks to the dreaded underwear lines) 😉

I had no idea. I’m certainly not a “skinny jean” kinda person though so I guess I’m good on this one 🙂

    • Interesting! I will definitely not be wearing jeans that are too tight anymore.

Here’s a section for you to complete and to share with the others.

What would be your Health Hazard that comes from being “fashionable?” Please share from your experience and observation.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I literally can not think of any that has not been mentioned above.

    • I feel this #AmCoffee party has covered alot of the everyday hazards! Thanks for the fun!! #AmCoffee

    • Amanda Alvarado says

I’m not very “fashionable” so I can’t think of anything that you didn’t already mention!

      • Jessica Parent says

I’m with Amanda -In my personal life only heavy bling had any affect on me and once I got a good look at Grannys ears 20 yrs ago I got out of that phase almost as fast as I got into it

    • I think most of the fashion health hazards have been covered.
