As summer rolls into our lap, we need to take precaution against brutality of sun rays. Yes, without the sun we cannot get our Vitamin D created in our bodies. But overexposure can bring spotted skin, premature wrinkles, and even be a precursor to skin cancer, one of the most violent and quick cancers if not treated asap.
Let’s remind ourselves of the following Skincare Essentials for our precious skin:
– Get An Early Attention to our Skin Needs without Waiting Till We’re 70!
– Moisturize Your Face
– Use a Gentle Cleanser
– Wear Sunscreen Daily
– Layering Skincare Products

• WHAT IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING THING ABOUT YOUR SKIN?
yeah. its time for coffee! my skin is super frustrating. i have lots of tiny bumps and no doc can figure it out. allergy test done, lots of topicals tried, not acne. it flares and goes away on its own within hours whenever it feels like. i thought stress but nope. i thought heat but nope. ruled those things out. time to hit up a dermatologist….when i can fit that in my schedule… have been trying for over six months to make that appt. lol. the usual, mom puts her needs last.
Good morning all. My skin is a lot more stretchy now with age.
Good morning, I get breakouts sometimes from my hormones. And my skin gets dry. I didn’t have these issues until I became menopausal.
i wonder if i am menopausal and thats why my skin is crazy. i dont have any other symptoms. maybe i am stretching for a reason. lol
where is everyone today? last days of school can be crazy. i konw i am going crazy. 🙂
Good afternoon
Morning ladies,
Been off for days and just popping in for a few because I have a bit of time.
My skin is awful now.

Get an Early Start on Skin Care
Even if you’ve never taken care of your skin, it’s not too late to start. Your skin starts to age when you are only in your mid-20s, though you may not see it. Your favorite products may not work as well anymore. Your genes, daily habits, and the sun cause these changes. So don’t wait any longer! You may want to ask a dermatologist now how you can get smoother, softer skin, whatever your age
I would say my skin started changing in my mid 30’s. I was blessed with my grandmothers skin and hair. I have wrinkles now but no grey yet. (knock on wood).
I am getting a facial Saturday, yay. I have had good skin until recently.
i have never had a facial. how long do the effects last noticeably?
Okay a facial sounds so relaxing.
It became noticeable to me in my early 30s
I had a friend who was in her 30’s when I was in my 30’s. She had told me that her grandmother told her when she was younger to always moisturize. She looked great!
Use a Gentle Cleanser
Choose a creamy one for dry skin, or an oil-free, foaming one for oily skin. If you have sensitive skin, talk to your dermatologist about how to avoid irritation. Wash with warm or cool water. Hot water can strip away your skin’s natural moisture. Pat your face dry – don’t rub.
How do you really tell if you have oily or dry skin on your face? I think mine is in-between because I don’t get blemishes hardly ever.
I always use cool water, never rub.
summer time cool water is fine but i love a hot shower in the winter
Love washing my face with coolish water -typically don’t do it right (Im a rubber :/ )
I got a acne kit for free, the instructions told you exactly how to wash your face. I laughed at the instructions because I felt like it was a elementary lesson.
Moisturize your Face
Moisturizer protects and improves your skin. Even if you have oily skin or breakouts, you can use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer every day. If you have dry skin, you may need to put on moisturizer more than just once a day. Pat it on while your skin is still damp to seal in moisture.
I put on in morning and before going to bed.
i have stopped using moisturizer because of my skin bumps. i am afraid to make it worse.
I use coconut oil. I have sensitive skin that breaks out . I have found it works pretty good for me.
This is good to know.
Ive never really used moisturizers-my skin is so oily as it is (or seems to be)
Wear Sunscreen Daily
You need sun protection during daylight hours, no matter if it’s overcast or you’re staying indoors. The sun’s rays can pass through clouds and windows, so you’re always exposed. Many moisturizers have sunscreen. If yours doesn’t, look for a sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30. Don’t forget to cover your lips, too! And if you sweat or are outside for a long time, remember to reapply sunscreen to stay protected.
Go here for a COMPREHENSIVE discussion of VALUE OF DIFFERENT SUNSCREENS!
I believe and have heard that when it is over cast you can burn more because you stay outside in sun longer.
its true. i have had that problem. wear sunscreen on cloudy days too. its should be called uv screen . lol
For sure. lol
Yes, the rays still come through.
I try put sunscreen on before makeup. You should apply when riding in your car to.
warning..do not apply while driving..hee hee. i had to read your post twice before i got it. heeeheee blonde moment
Okay had to lol at that one.
Hahahaha
absolutely use sunscreen everyday. i get it in my makeup too..
I AM a sunscreen girl-always using it!!!
Can I Layer My Skin Products?
Yes. Start with clean skin and put on any prescription creams or gels first.
Morning: Moisturizer, sunscreen (if it’s not in your moisturizer), makeup if you wear it.
Night: Anti-aging product (if you use one), moisturizer without sunscreen.
Thanks for the tips. It will come in handy.
Thanks
always clean your face before bed. if you dont then your pillow will have bacteria build up from days of makeup,,unless you change your pillowcase daily. i do change mine once a week.
Thanks and I change mine one a week as well or depending on if I swear bad in my sleep.
I am guilty of not changing my pillow case. But I wash nightly.
Scrub Away Dead Skin
Exfoliate to help your skin glow. You can buff off dead skin cells gently with a soft washcloth, spinning brush, or scrubs with synthetic beads. If your skin is dry, exfoliate once a week. If you have oily skin, do it once or twice a week. If you have acne or sensitive skin, talk to your doctor. Exfoliating might irritate your skin.
Interesting because I didn’t know how much to exfoliate.
exfoliating irritates my skin but i don make sure i use a washcloth and gently rub my face in the shower when my pores are open to rid airborne dirt from the day
Love this idea
Grr, everytime I do this my skin breaks out more.
Dark Skin Needs TLC
If you’re African-American or Hispanic, for example, your skin might be sensitive to sun or chemicals. Stick with a simple, gentle skin care routine. Don’t go a day without moisturizer or sunscreen. Even though you may not ever get sunburned, you still need sunscreen to protect against skin cancer, wrinkling, and dark spots.
I really need to put the sunscreen on my face because I have been doing it.
Sorry I meant I have not been doing sunscreen on my face.
sunscreen is vital from birth to forever. kids hate it but they tolerate the spray kind and they do like the coconut smell. lol
My skin is really light.
I was not exposed to many blacks when I was younger. I remember a friend’s older sister was dating a black guy. We were all outside and I will never forget him telling me as he showed me his burnt feet “See we black people burn too”funny that was over 20 years ago and I will never forget that.
Feed Your Skin To Health!
Your skin craves good nutrition just like the rest of your body. Some studies suggest that nutrients can improve and protect your skin. Creams and serums that include vitamins C or E may protect against sun damage. Ones that have vitamins A or B3 may be able to correct the sun damage you have already. Of course, you still need to get vitamins from foods.
My mom was always big on vitamin E when we were younger. She use to by it in capsules though.
interesting. i didnt know you could correct sun damaged skin. happy to know that and i already take vitamins so now i know another benefit. yeah
I agree with you. Never knew this.
this is a very cool concept and i was unaware of this that we could really have that many different thing
Organic Is Not Always Better
There’s no scientific proof that organic or all-natural cosmetics and skin care products are safer for your skin. In some cases, they may irritate it, especially if you have sensitive skin. Like many skin care products, “natural” ingredients like plant extracts may cause rashes or allergic reactions in some people. Test them first on a less noticeable area of your skin.
i like the idea of organic food but not really in makeup. no apparent reason why…now i have a reason. now that you said plant extracts…maybe i should see if there is any in my makeup and maybe thats why i get facial rashes.
I have a lot of allergies so I test stuff on my hand before putting on my face.
have you ever tested your hand and then found that it did bother your face even though your hand did not react?
No but interesting question. 🙂
Didn’t know this
Physicians Formula has a organic moisturize. It is the only one that has a SPF that does not make me break out
i am forturnate that i can do both! and either of them mess with my complextion
Hydrate Your Skin Daily!
Without water, toxins will remain in the tissues and muscles, and on the cellular level as well.
By-products of the nightly chemical reactions will be floating and clogging your body, leading to sluggishness in skin, mood, energy.
– Drink before you become thirsty!
– Drink water frequently: A couple of sips could be enough to hydrate you properly.
To get the best drinking water, check this extensive discussion on AMCoffee!
i so wish i could drink more water but my addiction is sweet tea. lots of caffeeine and sugar. not great for the body. i do drink water in the summer when i am spending time outdoors and it does make me feel better but in cool weather i have no desire for it.
Water is very important. We all need to stay hydrated.
I only drink water
Okay I drink a couple cups coffee a day and I sometimes drink energy drink. Water is the one I drink all the time. 🙂
Same here. Water only
i try to drink water always while doing my work outs, but i am a very very bad popaholic!
