What Affects Our Skin Health Reminders

HASHTAG: #AMCoffee

Out AM Coffee is for information only. It is does not substitute consultancy with your health professional ever!

With the science marching forward every day and making astounding discoveries for us all in many areas of our lives, it empowers us with incredible tools and knowledge to listen to our bodies more acutely and make more informed decisions when it comes to our well-being.

Skin is the largest organ. It protects and beautifies us. Yet it is never enough to stress the importance to care for our skin on the daily basis and, hopefully, to use the achievements that science has dug out for our own benefit.

Skin health is being affected not only by the tangible factors like weather, dust, personal care products and food. Factors like stress can have a profound effect on the skin. The color, the look, the defensive mechanism of the skin can change dramatically if we do not take precaution or a careful follow-up from the stressful situation that happened in our life.

For example, the scientists explored the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in dermatology patients. The skin conditions that developed in the skin ranged from cutaneous sensory flashbacks (disagreeable skin sensations like itching, burning, stinging), hives and even cutaneous (skin) self-injury.

Living a stressful life invites many disorders in our bodies, and skin shows the signs of it through various skin issues like acne and cold sores, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema to name a few. These skin conditions put even more stress on a person pushing her to be locked in a vicious cycle and not knowing what to do. That is why it is important to evaluate and dig down to the source, to the initial triggers that might have caused changes in our skin. Finding a Dermatologist who is trained in psychodermatology, the field that studies the connection of psychological welfare and the skin, could make a huge difference and figure out what has gone wrong in the first place.

Also an interesting remark about our overall internal inflammation. As it increases, the skin condition worsens and becomes harder to control. Researchers study and discuss how the right scent or biochemical trigger could bring a new level of wellness cosmetics.

Skin Infection And Food Allergies – Are These Connected?

Food allergies occur in 1 of 13 children, and this rate is growing exponentially. People want to know WHY allergies in children are growing and happening in the first place.

Obviously, we know about animal and dust and plant allergies. However a new hypothesis and a recent study support the theory connecting early exposure to food allergies to children with skin infections or eczema in their first year of life.

Lead author, Ruchi Gupta, M.D., MPH, pediatrician and researcher at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and associate professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, explained the outcome of the study.

“Our results do support the hygiene hypothesis showing that increased number of siblings is protective for food allergy,” said Gupta. “The association of food allergy with early skin infection and eczema, however, might shed some light on how food allergies develop. Our findings support the hypothesis that food sensitization might start with exposure through the skin. This might have implications for prevention of food allergies.”

    • wow Jack had some eczema when he was born and Grace and Hunter have ruff skin to this should be interesting good morning all

        Karen,
There’s so much deliberation and research going on that it is really tough to pin point the source, the cause of these allergies.
We all suffer from allergies at some extent.
My first allergic reaction was when I was 26 years-old. And it was so severe that it had debilitated me for about 48 hours with not stop sneezing and watery eyes. I still remember how confused and surprised I was and had zero ideas what was had triggered it.

    • i am so sorry for anyone that has food allergies! I love food!! I would not want to watch what i eat! I feel sorry for any of it!

      • Laura, Celebrate Woman Today says

        Wendi,
Everywhere I go, there are people with all kinds of food allergies. Allergies have become “the culture” of our daily living.
I do predict that we will have restaurants fast food chains that would specifically cater to people with certain and prevalent food allergies. It is a given and unavoidable from what I observe in life and in research.

    • My granddaughter Bella just had allergy testing done yesterday. All allergies where outdoor allergies, The biggest thing she allergic to is cow hair. That one floored me.

My.daughter Jayla has ecxema and it always gets worst in winter than it does in the summer. We have only found one kind of.soap and lotion that she can use without it burning her up and its called Choriphil I don’t know the correct spellling of it but its very close to that but that helped her but she has it really bad and she has had it every since she was born. The doctor has always told me to pet her bath in oatmeal but she never would even when was smaller she jist would not do it. It gets really bad on yhe middle of her arms bend of her legs and her back and the back of her neck. It has gotten alot better but it in the winter it comes back on worst!!

Skin Health Changes With Products You Use On the Skin

Yes, when we use soaps and other cleansing agents and products on our skin, the skin’s microbiome (environment) changes. Though more studies are necessary to draw significant opinions, the research and testing that has been already done do prove that our skin has a potential to change when we use skin products.

“According to the article abstract, common skin cleansers have been criticized for potentially altering the microbiome, causing detrimental effects to skin. This study therefore tested several skin cleansers to determine their short-term effects on levels of the antimicrobial peptide LL-37, as well as other bacterial DNA.

Small decreases in LL-37 levels were observed shortly after washing, although no significant change in the bacterial community itself was detected. The researchers note additional studies are necessary to better understand the effects of chronic washing or the potential impact of skin care products.”

    • i have to say there are so many different products on the market now then he had when i was gowning up

    • I can not use Tide!! it breaks me out and i love the scent of tide !! I use Persil now I love it better than tide and cleans like no other! and i cant find the chemical or ingredient in tide that makes the difference!

      • Laura, Celebrate Woman Today says

        Wendi,
I suspect there’s something in Tide they don’t list – it is legal not to list certain ingredients.
Or they manufacture Tide in a facility that produces other chemicals for other products.
The traces of those ingredients “rub off” on Tide and are carried into our lives.
I do not use this brand.
I use eco-friendly detergents, as it is too close to the skin and allergies can develop.

I use GRAB GREEN that has an amazing share of products. Met that woman-entrepreneur 10 years ago at the show, and am using those products a lot!

grab green detergent, amcoffee, am coffee

        • Jennifer Cox says

I.have to use all free also because of my daughter breaking out

        • Jennifer Cox says

My.son can’t use Tide at all he breaks out in huge hives so thats another reason I use all free. I do.believe with Wendi that they don’t list several things that is in Tide

          • Laura, Celebrate Woman Today says

            Jennifer,
I abandoned all mainstream detergents long time ago due to this problem with side reactions.

      • Wendi
i have to use all free we break out with tide to

    • I use Dreft alot, Maybe i should research that company more.

    • Jennifer Cox says

My daughter Jayla has Excema and it always gets worst in the winter especially on the bends of legs, arms, her back and the back of her neck. We can 0nly use Chiliphil lotion and soap on her skin everything else burns her up. The doctor has said to let her soal om oatmeal but she never would let me. She hated the feel of the oatmeal. In the summer ita not near as bad on her but she has.had it since she was born…

    • Amanda Alvarado says

We have used eco friendly products for both laundry and our skin since our daughter was a baby. I rarely buy mainstream bath and body products anymore, although you are starting to see eco-friendly ones carried alongside mainstream more and more.

Fat Cells Linked to Anti-aging Treatment

The fat cells collected are called adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs), which create more proteins than researchers initially thought when preserved in their natural state, as opposed to a manipulated lab.

“Unlike other adult human stem cells, the rate at which these ASCs multiply stays consistent with age,” said Percec. “That means these cells could be far more stable and helpful as we continue to study natural aging.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved ASCs, so further research is needed. But this gives us a inside look what our bodies are capable of! Maybe we can utilize our own adipose cells for anti-aging. Who knows what the future will bring. But is it interesting and exciting to follow this news path!
