Golden Health Benefits of A Grapefruit

For decades, grapefruit health benefits have been linked to different conditions of the body. Be it weight loss or flu prevention, the benefits are there. What is lacking is our regular consumption of this enormously underestimated fruit.
Being an excellent source of Vitamin C, it would be a great idea for any household to offer this available and affordable fruit at home. I remember taking a whole fruit to school and peeling it and enjoying refreshing morsels often when I was growing up. At that time where we lived, it was a luxury to have a grapefruit, and we could afford it only in season. But alternating with apples, oranges, tangerines, cherries – whatever the season was – we did have a lot of fruit as our daily snacks. There were not chips, no cookies (only for birthdays and holidays) and no fast sugars for us.
In this day and age, there are a lot of options for a healthy living. Making an excuse not to have a piece of grapefruit or any good fruit out there is just undermining our health and good well-being as we age. By the way, grapefruit is one of the top anti-aging fruit out there, too!

I did not know myself that there are DIFFERENT TYPES OF GRAPEFRUIT!
When I started research and buying from different sources, I found out that some taste so deliciously sweet – these are the ones I go after to eat.
I get them from Whole Foods sometimes. But I always get them from our local food markets.

It is NOT a BRAND!
Different brands sell different types of grapefruit.
Sometimes they are very DARK cherry color or very, very bright pink. From my experience they taste meaty and very sweet!
It is not a brand, every grower has different types of them.
You need to experiment: get one from a different source.

Grapefruit Reduces Overflow of Different Stress Hormones
Like oranges, grapefruits are an excellent source of vitamin C. In fact, when comparing whole fruits, grapefruits contain about 26% more of this key micronutrient.
In addition to being a potent antioxidant, vitamin C may also help combat stress. In one study, German researchers found that, when faced with a stressful situation (e.g., public speaking, taking a test, going for a long trip), healthy young adults who supplemented with vitamin C experienced reduced blood pressure, a decreased stress response, and significant reductions in the hormone cortisol.

When my hubby started eating grapefruit just ONE Time a Day, his weight dropped visibly!
He kept his lifestyle, as he does run regularly. But what he did was adding this awesome fruit to his Before Meal regiment.
And he started with grapefruit slices every morning! This, by the way, does regulate our blood sugar and normalizes insulin sensitivity, which does cause weight gain. (Read about it in discussion AM Coffee #5)
i cant believe we let these little things slip away from us and its right there every time we go to the store and i walk right by them and I know they are good for you

Just adding grapefruit regularly to our daily diet brings huge benefits.
I usually add it as a dessert to clear the tastes and enjoy a low-calory food. That’s what Chinese do – serving fruit to clear the palette and satisfy all our tastes at the end of every meal.
This sounds like an idea I can actually see myself adding to my daily eating schedule. To cleanse the palette. I like that.
I will admit I havent tried grapefruit in a while, Maybe will pick up a few and give them another try.

Do remember to add various sources to benefit from FIBER overall –> lentils, beans, quinoa, chia.

Do explore DIFFERENT TYPES OF GRAPEFRUIT!
You need to buy one from a different source, look at their names, and find varieties that are SWEET and Juicy.
Check your local green market.
oh we love beans and i eat lots of greens from the garden it is so good to have fresh foods you can walk out side and pick what you want from the garden

I spend my summers growing up in the country.
Doing what my grandparents did alongside with them taught me a ton!
I love earth and what greatness can come out of it when we put our heart and love labor into it.
just a thought that popped in my head. I have never seen grapefruit served in hospitals. I am guessing it can not be eaten with some meds. I do now some people that take cancer drugs are not suppose to eat grapefruit.

Good info, What about taking a vitiamn with Grapefruit made in it? I Know fresh is better, But, I live in the mountains and travel a hour to get to a major grocery store so getting them fresh is hard for me.

Grapefruit And Weight Loss – Truth Or Myth?
Research shows that eating regularly grapefruit is a great benefit for weight loss and maintenance –> see it? MAINTENANCE!
In one study published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism, researchers from Vanderbilt University found that when folks added half of a grapefruit (before breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to a reduced-calorie diet, they ended up consuming up to 500 fewer calories per day—without any increase in hunger – which had a tremendous impact on weight loss.
–> With the addition of grapefruit, the participants’ rate of weight loss increased by over 13% compared to when they were following a reduced-calorie diet without the fruit.
In another study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food, researchers from the Scripps Clinic in California found that overweight folks consuming fresh grapefruit three times daily before meals lost 5 TIMES more weight than the placebo group (i.e., no grapefruit) over the course of 12 weeks.
—> Not only that, the researchers also found that the addition of grapefruit significantly improved insulin sensitivity, which is intimately tied to carbohydrate metabolism and weight management.

Add grapefruit every day or as often as you can to benefit!
i have also read that if you have a grapefruit scent like in your shower or air it is to help with mood and will wake up very many senses and make for a better day!!!

it was real wet out and i was going out to the barn and the wheelchair ramp we have that needs to go i slipped going down it and took a good fall thank God i am just sore and bruised and i have a chiropractor who dont charge me or Jack to get adjustment because of me taking care of Jack and doing that to help him so he is helping me he is a sweet person to do this
