    Beginner’s Guide to Cleaner Eating

Many of our fans share a desire to include more fresh produce into their diet, change their diet and eating habit, and simply add variety to their daily food process.

Here are a few steps and options to do all and any of this! Good reminder for all of us.

    • Choose Whole Foods
    “Whole Foods” means Less Processed!

If you’re after reducing inflammation in your whole body, improve your energy levels, lose and maintain weight, and just feel better – you gotta add more Whole Foods into your diet!

    • Keep it Local
Did you know that processed foods travel on average 1,300 miles to reach a consumer? And produce can be in transit even more – 1,500 miles on average? After all that travel, the vitamins and ingredients that make these foods Healthy can easily be diminished to the minimum!

Buying from your Local Farmer’s market is the way to go – not only FRESH, Full of vitamins and potent in their qualities and Taste, too! Each Meal can become a FEAST!

    • Choose Healthy FATS
    – Nuts, seeds and avocados are micro-nutrient dense and provide yummy taste, too!
    – Minimize or eliminate extracted oils, like canola, and processed fats, like margarine.
    – Learn how to cook in a healthy environment like steaming and grilling

    • Choose Nutrient-Dense Diet
    – A variety of nutrients – such as vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients – are essential for good health.
    – Eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables
    – Include whole grains, beans and other unrefined whole plant foods to get the most out of your diet.

    • Read Labels
Always! It may be a healthy looking meal on the package, but instead you’ll get a “all-natural” wrapped into the chemicals you don’t want to be close to!

It is understandable that we are busy and do need some convenience and time saving, and yes, we do travel and spend time at work and school. So, we won’t haul our fridge or brown bag with us. Due to that – read labels!

    • Be Kitchen Wise
When you have your fridge stocked up at all times, you have a great opportunity to whip up a healthier choice in dishes to become your breakfast, lunch or dinner. When you open that cold door into the refrigerator world you’ll be presented with Options that are much healthier than those that may occur during the hunger pains!

Anything your Could Add to the List Above to Keep our Bodies Humming and Working Well?

    amcoffee

    • Suzanne C says

Taking vitamins and supplements, especially vitamin C. I swear by it, gets me through winter while still feeling my best

    • angela vaught montgomery says

I try my best to plan ahead so I can make something healthier than just making whatever I can make quick

    • kelly Hubbard says

I am drinking Green tea these days and adding Lemon to it. I just found out the benefits of adding Lemon to your body and have to say I am amazed . Plus it helps your immune system too.. So now I am putting a lemon in everything ..:)

      • Suzanne C says

Ohhh great idea! I keep a pitcher of water with lemon and cucumbers in the fridge to drink. I learned that trick at a spa 🙂

    • Pretty good list here, I would add try to not add salt to foods, alot already come with salt added #AMCoffee

      • Karen Hinkle says

as a sister to a brother who is a truck driver and delivers fruits and veggies I know when they get loaded on that truck they are not even rip and yes local or just grow your own it takes some time but the benefits of growing your own you know what is in your food we have always had big gardens even raised our own chickens and meat you can tell a big diffrents in store pork chops and your more taste and flavor and no chemicls even the eggs from the chickens

      • thia beniash says

true about not adding salt. I use unsalted butter so I can control the amount of salt added to foods. most foods are seasoned so I don’t even need salt!

    • Wendi Watson says

i gave up everything that is associated with aspartame! its horrible how bad it is for you i just hope i was not to late!

    • Valerie Guerrero says

plenty of rest and take vitamins daily

    • Rebecca Swenor says

We like to drink water, teas, and juices over sodas. Are bodies need plenty of fluids during the day and soda and so juices contain a lot of sugar. You should never eat, I believe it is four hours, before you go to bed.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

I’ve cut out artificial sweeteners and cut down on sodium. I like to plan my meals and make them ahead of time. I found that if I make crockpot meals and freeze them, I can just pop them in the crockpot in the morning and have a healthy dinner. As soon as we purchase our produce, we wash it, prep it, put it in clear containers and at eye level in the fridge. When we go for a snack, we’re more likely to grab what’s readily available, so we make healthy foods those readily available foods.

    • Mandi Gilliam says

I just love eating as many fruits as possible through out the day and like to make a lot of veggies to go with dinner. Buying them fresh from the market isn’t always easy because I just moved to a new town and still don’t know my way around. But I try to steer clear of junk foods and take lots of daily vitamins like C, b6, b12, ect.

    • Brianna Ketchum says

Taking vitamins n leaving salty foods other than that list is awesome

    • Plan ahead, it helps you from getting off track.

    • I love going to the farmers market and trying new thing…can’t wait till the local one opens back up, I need some more honey

Flame Retardant Furniture, Clothes – What Legacy It May Leave

At one time it was considered a MUST to put Flame Retardant chemicals into furniture and then into children’s clothes, like pajamas. Remember that?

What happened next is disaster waiting for all of us. The chemicals in those products were linked to Neurological and Reproductive disorders and even cancers.

All manufacturers have to comply with the law not to put such Flame Retardant chemicals into products any more.

Do know about it and always be vigilant when you buy things! An Educated Consumer is a Powerful Thing Indeed!

Yes, I think some of my older sons pjs were like that. Now for my lil guy they are just snug fitting. Much better!

    • angela vaught montgomery says

I remember when they were like that. I am glad they changed it

    • kelly Hubbard says

Its sad you think you are doign the right things with your kids and you just dont know who to trust these days..

    • My how things change as we grow & learn #AMCoffee

    • Wendi Watson says

the problem is that we try to do a good thing and it turns out to be a bad thing! I think we just need to go back t the days of eating off the land and starting from our own seeds and animals! Its all dangerous anymore. its sad

      • Karen Hinkle says

well I think thing need to be tested longer for one and yes that was a big disaster try to make thing better sometimes are not

    • Valerie Guerrero says

i had no idea bout this but im glad it was changed

    • thia beniash says

technology is great but it is being over used without truly studying its effects. I never cared to purchase the flame retardant clothing….purely on instinct. now glad I followed my instinct instead of marketing.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

I’m glad they rid of it before my children were born. We have very snug fitting pjs for them now.

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Wow actually I have never heard of this!!!! I will have to do some research. I wonder if this could be something from the clothes I wore as a child, which makes me wonder if it has anything to do with all of my neurological disorders….. Hum….. This ones a thinker.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I learned about the Flame resistant starch causing cancer etc when I was in the Army. I had always assumed that the starch flame resistant starch and starch were the same thing. I don’t know how different or even if they are different . In the Army everyone used starch on there uniforms which it made the clothes very stiff and hard. The smell was sometimes over whelming too.

    • Brianna Ketchum says

I had no idea about this so glad it has changed

    • I’m remember it, chemicals are never good.

    • I did not know it was linked disorders…now I do..

7 Worst Ingredients In Foods per Dr. Mercola

As you may know, our FOODS boast with over 3,000 of added ingredients like coloring, preservatives, flavoring and more! This is just one of the many reasons to eat WHOLE FOODS!

So, what are the 7 Leading Worst Ingredients?

    • Artificial Sweeteners
They were found to lead to a steady weight gain than regular sugar!

    • Synthetic Trans Fats
    They were linked to :

    – Cancer: They interfere with enzymes your body uses to fight cancer.
    – Diabetes: They interfere with the insulin receptors in your cell membranes.
    – Decreased immune function: They reduce your immune response.
    – Problems with reproduction: They interfere with enzymes needed to produce sex hormones.
    – Heart disease

    • Artificial Flavors
Nobody can know what it is, they just mention it on the label “artificial flavor.”
Did you know that Strawberry artificial flavor can contain nearly 50 chemical ingredients?

Do not buy anything that has that ARTIFICIAL FLAVORING, especially when you buy Kid’s food!

    • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)
    Better quote what it is:
” MSG is an excitotoxin, which means it overexcites your cells to the point of damage or death, causing brain dysfunction and damage to varying degrees — and potentially even triggering or worsening learning disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease and more.”

    • Artificial Colors
These are huge dangers! Those products, especially for kids, have artificial colors Red 40, Blue 2. But what is it, do you know?

Red # 40, which is the most widely used dye, may accelerate the appearance of immune system tumors in mice, while also triggering hyperactivity in children.”

Blue # 2, used in candies, beverages, pet foods and more, was linked to brain tumors.” ”

Yellow 5, used in baked goods, candies, cereal and more, may not only be contaminated with several cancer-causing chemicals, but it’s also linked to hyperactivity, hypersensitivity and other behavioral effects in children.”

    • High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)
High-fructose corn syrup contains free-form monosaccharides of fructose and glucose. These cannot be the equivalent to SUCROSE, which is our sugar.

Fructose is metabolized by our liver. As the diet which is full of HFCS exhausts the liver, this organ becomes damaged. The comparisons of such damage are equivalent to the damages that Alcohol induces upon liver! Mind that!

One more reason to Read labels and Expand the diet Whole Foods.

    • Preservatives
Yes, preservatives lengthen life of the products, foods. But at what cost?

Here are some preservatives and our body’s reaction to consume them.

    – Sodium Benzoate – found in many soft drinks, fruit juices and salad dressings – has been found to cause children to become measurably more hyperactive and distractible.

    – Sodium nitrite, a commonly used preservative in hot dogs, deli meats and bacon, has been linked to higher rates of colorectal, stomach and pancreatic cancers.

One more time – READ LABELS, Eat Local, Expand Your Whole Food Options!

These Facts Are Reminders To All of Us Where and How we Live, What we’re Surrounded With.

Knowledge is power and gives us all a CHOICE to make when we come against it.

    • Suzanne C says

Wow,this is eye opening! Honestly, I try to avoid most of these but unfortunately they are in sooooo many foods. I wish companies would have the decency to remove these harmful ingredients before they make it to consumer level.

    • angela vaught montgomery says

There are so many bad things in the food and beverages we consume these days! I know personally with the diet soda, I feel so much better when I leave them alone.

    • kelly Hubbard says

I know this sounds stupid but at 50 years old I just started reading labels.. I wont use an artifical sweetener in anything they scare me..

      • Suzanne C says

That’s wonderful!! It doesn’t matter the age, I believe removing harmful substances will always help!

    • Thank you for reminding us of making proper choices, and if we just try to be more aware of the additives, we can make a better choice. #AMCoffee

    • Wendi Watson says

well looks like its time to give up sweet n low I’m going to have to try truvia. its all natural…

      • Karen Hinkle says

I will be writing this down as I know my grandson dose not need this in his diet and for sure we don’t but I am a big diet coke fan I see that the sweetner in it is not good so what could I sub for it any ideals would be helpful

    • Valerie Guerrero says

omg this is like wow new information that i learn every day

    • thia beniash says

I am ASTOUNDED with the effects of HFCS on the liver! its compared to drinking like an alcoholic??? whoa. I will start reading the labels more carefully and try to avoid it.

    • Cynthia Dubuque says

I was aware of all of that except synthetic trans fats. I’ve learned something new today.. Thank you!

    • Brianna Ketchum says

Wow I never knew about most of this sure is a big huge eye opener for me thanks for the inform

    • Mandi Gilliam says

Omgosh! A few of these I’ve heard about, but wow!!! There has definitely been a lot of new things that I did not know about above, and people wonder why the cancer rate is so high. They are poisoning us through our foods. One thing that wasn’t mentioned above is all of the steroids that are in our chicken and meats!!! It worries me daily as to what effect it truly is taking on people. It’s pretty sad when you can’t trust the food on your plate not to contaminate you in someway.

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I do know that often there is more than one name for ingredient. Some when reading the labels, will only be looking for the specific name of that item ( sugar, salt, food color etc.). It is very important to know what you are trying to avoid.

    • I know about the red dye. My kids have Sensory disorder and red dye is a big trigger for them.

    • I was aware of some of these…learned something new and important this am

Good morning everyone! I do not eat MSG but I do have a cyst on my brain and have violent head pain everyday. And I was wondering if anyone knew of anything natural that works really well to fight maigrains as maybe it would help relieve some of my pain. Medications even pain meds don’t work and until I can get my insurance switched my surgery to relieve this pain has been postponed!!! So now I’m left devastated and in a lot of pain for the next month or two and was wondering if any of you had any advice, to help treat this what seems to be uncurable head pain. 🙁

    • CoffeeTime says

      Mandi,
      My heart feels the pain.
No solution for huge head aches. Cooling, have you tried this simple solution? Though, I would think, you did.
