    BAMBOO IN OUR FOOD

BAMBOO is often referred to as “Kinf of Forest Vegetables.” True so.

Being low in SUGAR, low-glycemic, BAMBOO is widely used in the food industry.
Here are some benefits that science has discovered in this Asian wonder.

    – Improves appetite and digestion
    – Being a low-glycemic meal, bamboo is good for those with hyperglycemia.
    – The main nutrients in bamboo shoots are protein, amino acid, fat, sugar and inorganic salt.
    – The bamboo protein produces 8 essential (your body cannot manufacture these, you need to find these in food) and 2 semi-essential amino acids.
    – Although the fat content is comparatively low (0.26-0.94%), it is still higher than in many other vegetables, and the shoots contain rich essential fatty acids.

HAVE YOU TRIED BAMBOO SHOOTS IN YOUR DAILY DIET? IF YES, WHAT RECIPES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

    • constance ralph says

I haven’t. .I would love to try if anyone has a good recipe

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have never tried it. I would try it if I know how to get it for sure.

    • constance ralph says

Where would we go to buy it?

    • Elicia P says

No I have never tried it. Is it grainy? I am a texture person so if I do not like the texture of something I will not eat it.

      • CoffeeTime says

        Elicia,
There’s a lot of texture in some dishes. It can be prepped up in either way!

      • constance ralph says

Good question. I am the same way..I have trouble eatting mac and cheese because of the texture

        • Elicia P says

          Constance,
Wow, mac n cheese. I can eat that. However, there are many others that I do not like. I just started eating Chia Seeds. I have been putting them in my mouth and gulping down water. They turn jelly like but I figure gulping them down I do not have a chance to feel the jelly like nature!

    • thia beniash says

I have never actually tried bamboo shoots but I am interested in it!

    • Virginia Rogers says

I have tried in stir fry, my cousin made it though, so do not have recipe. Sounds like something need to consider using more often though thank you great info!! πŸ™‚

    • haven’t – would love to though!! My husband’s grandpa had them growing wild in his garden till recently..

    radiant skinn bamboo silica

Skin, Hair Would Benefit from Cilica in Bamboo
    Source: Natural News

Bamboo is a rich source of SILICA, which is an essential nutrient for humans. In particular, silica plays a great role in keeping the skin and hair healthy. In fact, daily supplements of silica through the use of bamboo extract can improve the condition of hair and skin, even to the point of alleviating eczema and psoriasis.

    – The silica from bamboo extract improves skin health by helping the body absorb essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
    – Bamboo extract also offers anti-irritant properties, soothing the skin when applied directly through lotions or creams.
    – Bamboo contains anti-oxidants, helping to minimize wrinkles and naturally boost youthful radiance.
    – Silica from bamboo extract can strengthen the musculoskeletal system, improve the condition of nails and teeth, and reduce triglycerides and cholesterol

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IMPROVE YOUR SKIN, HAIR, NAILS, TEETH LATELY?

    • constance ralph says

Wow..I definitely need to look into this..all 4 of my kids have some degree of eczema and I gave recently developed flair ups around my mouth.

      • Rebecca Swenor says

That would be bad around the face. I get flare-ups on my shins and end up scratching them in my sleep.

    • Elicia P says

Wow, I did not know any of this. Bring it on!!!!

I have recently started using coconut oil on my face. I have such sensitive skin that it appears coconut oil does not make me break out a lot.

      • constance ralph says

Does the coconut oil smell good? I have been using pure African shea butter and it stinks.

        • Elicia P says

          Constance,
It does and actually I do not notice much of a odor. When you buy it do not buy the heat pressed only get the cold pressed (heat pressed all the benefits have been killed). There are also different grades. You can get a lower grade for your skin and a higher grade to cook with.
My son has severe dry skin. I have been using coconut oil all winter and his skin looks its best.

      • Rebecca Swenor says

I am literally afraid to try oils on my face because I am afraid of acne. But being here has made my fear lesson.

        • Elicia P says

I get the same thing. I thought at 35 I would be over the acne but I am not. The coconut oil has been pretty good to my so far!

        • oils are good for acne so long as they’re non-comodogenic. One of the ways you get acne is when your brain gets the message that the skin is too dry, it overproduces oil. Using natural oils that are non-comodogenic (don’t clog pores) actually helps lessen acne! Plus, the dry skin can irritate you and cause more flare-ups

    • Rebecca Swenor says

The first thing that comes to my mind literally is stopped biting nails. lol I have been trying different lotions on my skin and I started using Suave Natural Infusion with macadamia oil and white orchid shampoo for hair. The shampoo really helps my hair. I even have my wavy hair back from I was a lil girl.

      • thia beniash says

At the salon they put a protein treatment on my hair…it felt awesome for a week. Wish it lasted longer. I have been looking for shampoos with more proteins in them now. Still not even close to the salon. I am going to have to ask if that magic stuff is for sale. heehee

      • thia beniash says

great thing for your nails…jello, yup, eat jello. jello cubes have gelatin in them. helps with hair and nails.

    • constance ralph says

I have been using pure African shea butter..I like it but it does not smell good..I think it smells like a meaty dog treat..

    • thia beniash says

Drinking more water is the best thing you can do for your skin. I try not to use too much oils on my face. Rashes are not pretty on the face.

    • Virginia Rogers says

Honestly have not done a lot for my skin, hair or nails lately, mostly due to ability and availability. Great to know though my hair could definitely use, very dry and far from healthy. Although the aides do use my lotion on my skin may have to check into ingredients currently using Aveeno, may be time for a switch. πŸ™‚

    • I haven’t done much new, although I moisturize regularly. I do try to go for natural ingredients more than I used to, which is why I might have been noticing more silica lately in the ingredient list πŸ™‚

    • constance ralph says

Can you buy bamboo in an oil or butter form to use on the skin?

      • CoffeeTime says

        YES,
You can find oil-based versions of bamboo shoots and other recipes! Better to venture out into the Asian market!

Bamboo is the Source of Dietary Fiber!

Fiber is essential in our vibrant living. Assisting in being regular, being a vital part of weight loss and maintenance, fiber is life in many ways. Bamboo has plenty of it.

Watch this video on what FIBER can do for you

    • constance ralph says

      Good to know

    • Elicia P says

Great thank you. Fiber is important truly!

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I did know it was a good source of fiber but still did know how to eat it. πŸ™‚

    • thia beniash says

I have added fiber to my diet and found overall I feel better. I have lost a few pounds, maybe because of fiber?!

      • Rebecca Swenor says

That is very possible cause it can help with weight loss.

        • thia beniash says

I haven’t added exercise to my diet, just watching my eating habits more and lost four pounds over the past month. I think I should work out to tone but I cant fit that in my schedule faithfully. I so wish I could. I use to love to work out. what an energy boost!

    • thia beniash says

Just did a bit of googling….DO NOT EAT RAW BAMBOO…. here is a site with cool recipes and info.

    • awesome to know – a bit more of an understanding!

    • Virginia Rogers says

Wow that video was great!! I now have it bookmarked. There are some products mentioned am not able to eat, but am going to look into what I can. I do know I eat oatmeal daily, just did not know about others or the benefits. Thank you so much maybe if I can even switch to some of products mentioned would be able to get off some of stool softeners they give me to counteract pain medicines as well as helping my health and diet. πŸ™‚

      • CoffeeTime says

        Virginia,
Any meds interfere with our gut flora, thus, leading to abnormal regularity.
Eating whole foods would definitely bring in more good bugs into your gut and will get you started on the way to a a more regular you!

  7. thia beniash says

I know I love bamboo in my fabric and in my vases πŸ™‚ I have never tried to eat it though. sounds interesting., I am going to have to check the stores for it. Can it be eaten raw as well as cooked? Raw, I am thinking maybe an addition to salad

WHAT IS YOUR WISH RE: BAMBOO PRODUCTS? WHICH ONES ARE MOST NEEDED TO BE BROUGHT INTO YOUR LIFE AT THIS MOMENT?

    • constance ralph says

I would love to have have some work out clothes

    • thia beniash says

I did not know it cut out 98%! that’s HUGE! great for swimwear for all ages. pretty dresses, shorts for those super hot summer days when you would rather be wearing your birthday suit then having your shorts stick to your legs… lol

    • I’d love to see more mainstream baby clothing using bamboo – my baby is SO pale skinned and I have no experience with that… he also gets hot very quickly so that would be a perfect solution for him. Also bamboo sun hats, he sweats so much in his sun haht

    • Elicia P says

Workout clothes. This way I maybe will not sweat so much!

    • Rebecca Swenor says

I have never worn bamboo items. It sounds awesome. Both my boys have sensitive skin a trait they get from their father.

    • Virginia Rogers says

I have never tried but ever since reviews been wanting to try the bed sheets, I do tend to spend more time than want to admit there. I did win a shirt while back but have not gotten yet to try, love that they are great for sensitive skin which I definitely have!! πŸ™‚

      • CoffeeTime says

        Virginia,
        The sheets are HEAVENLY!
Keep you warm or cool depending what’s temperature outside. I LOVE Bamboo bedding!

Do keep in mind that BAMBOO is 100% biodegradable and is a sustainable resource!

    – Water requirements are minute for this plant
    – BAMBOO contributes to soil stability
    – The yield (i.e. the amount of product) you get from an acre of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yeld you get from cotton.
    – Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world. It spreads rapidly across large areas.
    – Bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers.

    • constance ralph says

I see people trying to give it away around here..maybe I will get some and grow my own..now that I know I can eat it

    • thia beniash says

I have seen some seriously overgrown bamboo areas here in South Carolina! They are beautiful but be careful where you plant them. There is no stopping them once let loose. lol.

      • yes! they grow like a weed

      • Elicia P says

reading Laura’s post above stating it grows fast made me think that there may be a problem with it overtaking.

        • thia beniash says

plant it far, far away where you can enjoy it from the distance because it will overtake anything around it. my husbands childhood home had some in the backyard…lol…it became a forest between his home and the house on the other side. great privacy though.

    • thia beniash says

Question….are there different varieties of bamboo?

    • Rebecca Swenor says

That is perfect. I was wonder how fast it grow. It was a great idea to start making clothing etc out of bamboo. It has many uses.

    • Virginia Rogers says

Did not know that but great info love that thrives without fertilizers or pesticides. πŸ™‚

  10. I didn’t realize that bamboo had so many benefits. I’ve eaten bamboo shoots and love them.

  11. I don’t know much about bamboo at all. I got my Mom a lovely bamboo plant that was shaped like a heart and it’s been very sturdy (she has a black thumb).

  12. I love bamboo inserts for cloth diapers… although they are harder to care for, for me, than some of our others!

  13. Wait, bamboo is edible? I didn’t know that and the benefits are awesome.

  14. You are blowing my mind with all of this bamboo talk. I only thought of it as an eco friendly alternative for materials and goods.

  15. I never even knew bamboo was edible for humans. Whenever I think of bamboo, all I can see is giant pandas. Who knew it had so many benefits?

  16. I must say I knew very little about bamboo, but my eyes have been opened. Congrats to all the winners.

  17. I haven’t heard much about bamboo in a while. It is a fantastic product that is very durable. I love my bamboo flooring.

  18. I haven’t tried bamboo shoot before or maybe I did. I just didn’t know. I’ll deliberately give this a try.

  19. I’ve got quite a few things in my home that’s made with bamboo. I’ve never eaten any before but I’d like to try it sometime.

  20. This is super fascinating! I have seen a lot of things make from bamboo, but I honestly didn’t know you could eat it! Thank you for sharing this info!

  21. Bamboo for food? I’ve never heard of that! I will have to check it out because I think it sounds interesting. I’ve never really thought of bamboo before.
