You are probably one of the millions fans for wearing flip flops! They come in so many colors and a gazillion of styles! There’s nothing wrong to use them for your trips to the beach or some other calling occasions. But what happens when we start wearing flip flops as a permanent substitution to shoes?
This infographic touches upon the most critical and frequently affected areas of our feet that suffer the most:
- Your Toes
- Ankles
- Bones
- Foot Pad Area
- Arch
- Heel
Many ignore the health of their feet, as the thinking is that feet are just… feet. They do not need our special attention, as there’s nothing out there to pay attention to.
WRONG!
Our precious FEET are the invaluable harbors of intense pleasure and pain, as they are a home to pressure points to all of our organs and systems. In Asia, they’ve been practicing Reflexology and Shiatsu for centuries.
Take a look at this infographic to educate yourself more for a healthier YOU.

AM COFFEE – Sign In! HELLO, Everyone!
All right, what is your “confession” on wearing flip flops?
Every day or just every now-and-then?
Good morning. I wear them everyday. .
Goood morning all. I only wear them sometimes hardly ever.
good morning I hate them cant stand them I rather go bare foot
Good afternoon….No confession here-unless I can confess that I HATE flip flops-Lol ….I Hate having something between my toes and like Karen would rather be barefoot ๐
Good morning, I wear them all time.
Hello all. I don’t wear what most consider flip flops except to shower when I’m camping. I do wear flip flop type sandals a lot in summer, but they have leather soles. I have a few pairs and switch them up all the time, and they all have a bit of arch support. I also switch up with tennis shoes and loafers a lot.
Hi. I live in flip flops. Hate having to wear real shoes. They hurt my feet.
And I’m actual most comfortable in no shoes.
I wear flip flops all the time oh dear d d d dear!
I cannot wear flip flops anymore. I have a leg that will drag, so flip flops are no longer an option, I would stumble or trip.
Jill,
I’ve never worn flip flops as my footwear; just to the pool or beach and back.
I cannot wear them, as I seem not find the ones I love.
I had a pair once made out of soft leathery materil, and those were the best. But there was not arch support or anything on them.
You know what. I had a pair with leather too. They came in a clear box. I have been trying to see if I could find them. But most likely got thrown out. Not to much for flip flops. I just wish I could remember the name. Weren’t too bad. Can’t find any that are great.
I love flip flops. I hate the dollar store kind, those are worthless!
Elicia,
Which brand works the best for you? I have not yet seen flip flops that are an excellent wear.
good morning and i still hate them i cant stand to were them i go bare foot
Karen,
I am with you.
I lived the first part of my life in Hawaii. There, FLIP FLOPS are KING!
Everywhere you go, school or even businesses, people wear flip flops.
But I could not get that part incorporate into my life on the daily basis.
I just wear flip flops to the beach or pool.
Laura i would love to go visit Hawaii to see the beautiful flowers
Karen,
It is worth going just for that only reason!
The florals and plants are blooming all year round.
I have a huge collection of images with the flowers there. Need to share with you.
I do not remember the brand that I purchased. But they are ortho ones that have a support in them.
Hello my son had an orthodontist appt this morning so running a little behind!! I afraid to read I love flip-flops LOL !!!!
Wendi,
You made me laugh!

As you can see from the infographic, the flip flops create no support for our feet to carry our massive bodies all-day-long.
ARCHES
Inflammation that can be caused by overusing your Plantar Fascia, a thick band of tissue running from your heel to the ball of your foot. Inflammation, as we know, is the source for many diseases that can piggy-back on it.
Support is a must for your feet to function properly.
FOOT PAD
Constant motion within the flip flops creates friction, causing blisters and similar outcomes on the pad of the foot. Some could lead to serious conditions if not treated properly and timely.
HEEL
The pain in the heel area could arise from the overusing and overstretching of the Plantar Fascia.
Constant separation of the foot from the shoe service causes it as well.
When our feet in constant pain, dull or sharp, there’s no way we can concentrate on the daily life.
My left foot has been bothering my in the foot pad area, it feels like it needs to pop
I don’t have no foot problem I cannot were flip flops the strap in between my toe bugs me I see no use to wear them
I won a pair of toe socks last year well they also sent me a pair of their flip flops. They are supposed to be yoga flip flops BUT they have the thing between each toe. I have not worn them yet but I like you hate things between my toes.
@Elicia, i am the same way, i can’t stand the toe thing and the way they feel
This is good information, I’ve recently bought a pair of tennis shoes and added arch support in them to help with my achy feet.
I have never found them to be comfortable (I too hate the strap between my toes but also hate how they clap my foot when I walk ๐
I have plantar fasciitis, it’s very painful. That’s why I change shoes so often. I do exercises to help with it, wear special boots to bed, and wear an arch support band most of the time.
I find that trying to give my foot too much support, or shape them to be the shape of my shoe hurts my arches and whatnot much more than just a simple flip flop. Closest to going bare foot but with protection from the ground.
i love to be barefoot and flip flops are the next best thing because its as close as i can get to not having anything on my feet!
i for sure try to get new shoes every 6months the dr told me even though we dont wear them every day the times we do the support is gone and he said every 10 months if they are not daily shoes I worked on my feel all day and needed to have the best! flip flops were not an option for that LOL and with a back injury a few years ago i have to have a very good support system or i can tell!
Wendi,
Good shoes is the way to go. When we are younger, we opt what’s affordable.
Now, I do go for the best in quality. They cost more, but then they wear and last longer with the quality support for our feet as well.
When I was recovering from an illness and had most of my time in bed. The doctor wanted a good pair of shoes on my feet for those times I had to get up to relieve myself and eventually to recovery. Socks and a good pair of tennis shoes.
LISA,
Socks sounds great!
Yes to good pair of tennis shoes as well.
I love good tennis/running shoes even walking around my house.
If I don’t wear them โ I am barefoot.
I like barefoot. But they were concerned with me getting weak feet I guess. Arches and that. My feet did hurt there for a while. So on with the shoes. But I prefer barefoot. Which I mostly have done after they quit hurting.
Lisa, I am with you. Bare feet here!
Do you see how many discomfort areas flip flops can cause?
TOES AND SPACE BETWEEN THEM
During the flip flop wear process, toes are working overtime! Constant “grabbing” action on their part to stay in place, i.e., inside the flip flop, easily can create tendinitis or the inflammation of the tendons that connect your muscles to the bones.
What is the inflammation can lead to? To more serious and chronic conditions that you do not ask for.
Flip flops as a lifestyle can lead to “hammer toes” and encourage painful bunion formation and things that even doctors cannot predict. Our bodies are very unique and deal with difficulties in their own way. Why add something they do not need to deal with when we wear proper shoes?
In addition, flip flops are a house for a billion bacteria, including the Staphylococcus. Brr, it’s disheartening.
I bet thats why my foot has been hurting
@Constance I would say so loss them flip flops wow I am glad I don’t like them I knew there were more reasons why
Gross did not about the bacteria.
Saw a woman the other day that made foot jewelry -she had a huge gap between her big toe and next one-I asked if the jewelry she was wearing caused it (was like a flip flop with no bottom) she said “no….according to the Dr. its my over-wearing flip flops”
yuckkkkkk
I have mastered the flip flop walk. It’s kinda a lazy walk. It has to be the right flip flop though. Lightweight. The wrong ones do strain my toes. But the strap never bothers me inbetween the toe.
i have the new oofos and they do have a support system in the center of the foot which i have grown to love
I have a pair of therapeutic flops. I bought them years ago for when I take longer walks with my son. They are arched among other things.
What is the brand, Elicia?
i have not met a pair of flip flops i like

ANKLES & UP
From this infographic we learn that feet are the beginning point for diseases that could spread to the upper areas of our feet –> Ankles, Knees, Hips, Back.
The whole body is affected from wearing flip flops. It is wise to weigh things our and reconsider cheap foot wear vs your health.
Yes, there are some healthier options of flip flops. As the graph recommends we should pay attention to the following when shopping for flip flops:
– Make sure the flip flops Do NOT Bend easily in the mid section
– Look for a slight raise in the mid section of the flip flop
– Try to find a pair with a strap across the back
– Leather would be better than anything else
– Get the right size vs One Size Fits All
I think I need to invest in a good pair
I would really wear them since I don’t have a good pair that won’t hurt my
feet.
I don’t care to even look at them I am 47 and I will never where them the country gal in me likes to go bare foot and I love that feeling
They make flip flops with support now. I am not sure how they feel or if they work.
I thinkIl sick with my occasional sandals and bare fe but itsgoo to know for when I buy my kids a pair(Iave2 that like tem) or my hubby
There’s a DIY to make straps that go across the back. I wonder if those would work as well as the ones that come with a back strap.
The strap in the back always slices my heel up. And flip flops with a lift in the middle kill my arches.
i do wash mine like every other day due to the germs and yuckies that they can have i would never ever share a pair with anyone!
i have seen my children wear them and go to run and disaster happens
Echoing to your comment, Karen.
My kids wear their flip flops only to the beach or the pool. It is not the shoes I’ll endorse to wear as a regular wear for them or anybody else.
I am the same. Just for a short time is okay with me to wear flip flops. I even have a furry pair for around the house like a slipper. I use them for vacations usually. In my mind if they got lost while there it wouldn’t matter much. Lol
