What’s Lurking on The Shelves Of Our Supermarkets
HASHTAG: #AMCoffee

As we were preparing for our Thanksgiving dinner last week, I was making a few more stops at our local supermarkets to pick up this and that from the dinner list that wasn’t fulfilled earlier. Rushing through the isles to chose the right brand, the right quantity of ingredients, I was reflecting on my conversation with my friend Dr. Karen Vieira about the foods and products offered on the supermarket shelves.
Karen has her own opinion after doing research for many years for Ph.D. what really IS inside the food we eat. DAILY.
Most foods in our supermarkets are not just unhealthy – they’re downright toxic.
I’m not just talking about the stuff you know that’s unhealthy – I’m talking about almost EVERYTHING. Fruits, vegetables, meats, pasta, flour, breads, crackers, cheeses, milk, eggs, chips, cookies, candies, cakes…I really mean everything.
I asked Karen to go through some food categories and pin point the troubled areas where we need to pay attention to. Please jump to comments with the Discussion Points to see what really is lurking in our supermarkets when it comes to food we eat.

Taking a look at the food supply we are currently connected to on the daily basis is one of the vital threads we got to be aware of and take the appropriate actions.
That is why we are taking a look at our supermarkets and pointing some things to be aware of. All done with the help of our AM Co-host Dr. Karen Vieira.
So happy to see you today here! Come over when you can. AM Coffee is for early birds and not-so, too! It is open all-day-long, as we do have different schedules we live with.

Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are soaked in toxic pesticides and herbicides. If you buy the ones that are already cut up you, they are also sprayed with other toxic chemicals that prevent them from going brown, withering or spoiling. Organic ones are also sprayed with natural but just as toxic pesticides and herbicides too. You want pesticide-free produce. Often that exists at local farmers’ markets rather than in grocery stores.
yes i know this i soak them in hot vinegar water or peel them when i buy them
A lot of times this doesn’t help as well as the fruit has been grown with it and it just plainly exists in the fruit or veggie.
I wash when I can, buy organic, and peel if possible.
I was just thinking today how I need to look up the fruit and veggie vinegar bath. You can feel the waxy stuff on apples. Gross. Cannot wait until Farmers Market is back again downtown.
Meats
Meats are from animals given toxic hormones, antibiotics, corn feed and raised under intensely stressful and inhumane conditions where they don’t have room to graze or even move, which causes them to release stress hormones. So, we’re buying meat, milk, eggs, butter, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream cheese and other dairy filled with these toxins. I don’t cook with corn oil but that’s essentially what we’re drinking in milk from cows that were fed corn feed. Free range pasture-fed meat is best…again, check the farmers market.
Laura or raise your own so you know what your eating we eat a lot of fish and wild life on the farm its much better for us
Not a meat eater here and so glad. We limit the dairy as well but if and when I buy milk it is organic.
This is scary! I try to buy organic, but it is so expensive.
I’m going to check with my local butcher shoppe. Bet they have the good stuff.
SPONSOR MESSAGE 2
Wheat
All products made with flour are made from wheat drenched in toxic RoundUp and later bleached. This includes flour, pasta, bread, wraps, crackers, croutons, cookies, cake, pastries, etc. This is a tough one to escape. You can buy unbleached flour but it is still soaked in toxic weed killers. It may be better to go with gluten free options that use other types of flours like rice, rye and barley flours.
the stuff they put in the food these day are just unreal wonder why we get sick and have health issues
honestly I have never really thought about this one.
What CAN you eat that is safe? Sounds like not too much unless I grow everything myself.
A lot of this stuff is illegal in other countries.
Packaged Foods
Most packaged foods like soups, TV dinners, chips, snacks, cold cuts, hot dogs and quick fix meals are loaded with MSG, which leads to obesity and diabetes. They don’t say MSG though – they say things like natural flavor and yeast extract. Stick to packaged foods with short ingredients lists of things that you know what they are.
some time is is hard to do this but yes we must i like to make my own chips
I usually put things down when it says those words. Manufactures are so sneaky!
A lot of those quick meal items are loaded with MSG and salt! Neither of which I want.
We’ve gotten so used to quick and easy.

Cured Meats
Cured meats like cold cuts, hot dogs and bacon are loaded with toxic nitrites, even if they say they don’t contain nitrites.
My husband always wondered why I did not give our oldest hot dogs when he was little just like everyone else. It’s because of the garbage in it!
Besides the nitrates, who knows what kind of meats or whatever is in those things!
I’ll have to tell my mother in law. She was so excited she just bought nitrate “free” salami. Will have to break the news to her.
BE AWARE & Look for Healthier Options – IS THE MESSAGE
The point of this discussion isn’t to just scare you though. I want to encourage you to be more aware of what you are buying and to buy from local farmer’s markets where you are more likely to find healthier options from your local farms.
And, grow some of your own food. Yes, even in a small apartment, you can grow tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and more by the windows or on a small patio.
i have been growing my own food all my life as a child we grew up on our gardens we raised our own meat and hunted and fished i put all my garden veggies up for the winter and much better for us good information to day
My mom just made the comment last night at dinner when I questioned a ingredient. She mentioned how both her daughters are health aware and what exactly we put in our and out childrens bodies. My son I have been teaching him young and he knows pretty much what is good and not at 6!
There is nothing as delicious as a home grown tomato! YUM! The best part of summer.
We love growing our own food. So easy to do. And my son just loves it. Plus it tastes better.
Hello ladies. I hope everyone is well and had a good Thanksgiving. It’s quiet today…maybe the old saying ignorance is bliss is true with this information?
